I think Tilman and Morris are shoo-ins for their ability to make goals happen. I also think Arriola goes for sure due to his versatility out wide as both attacker and defender. He can actually play decent fb where he played for tijuana, I believe.
You have mixed 2 things that are unequal. Picking from a pool of known players does not mean that the roster spots are not open. I never said anything about the newness of any player. People in this thread have argued only 3 or so spots are open. That means that 23 spots are DECIDED. That's nonsensical. In no world are 23 spots decided at this point. I could say "CF, GK, left back" and we are already at more than 3 spots that are not decided. We have at least a half dozen spots on the roster that can reasonably be won at this point, and that is a conservative number with all of the injury issues (my true feeling is closer to 8). That the 6 (or more) spots are coming down mostly to 12-15 players we already know is irrelevant to my point. The point is that they are undecided slots on the roster, which someone can still win.
McKennie's strengths are taken away if you put him at the 9. He is not big enough to play that as a target forward. Still would have to be more a false 9. As noted previously he is good in the air but that is due to his making well timed runs and sneaking in when the defense is preoccupied with other attackers. Put him at the 9 and he isn't in a position to sneak into the box.
It's hypothetical. You may have 2 wins already, and it's the third match. You could have an injury. There are different possible scenarios why you'd play a second choice CB. I'm just making the case for a 5th CB. With 23 players, you only need pick 4 CBs. However, with 26 players, I'd take an extra forward, an extra midfielder, and an extra CB.
Wait there are multiple threads on here with an active discussion regarding playing McKennie as a #9??
Acosta came to DCU in 2016 and got his Green Card in Jan. 2018. Never tied to Argentina that I see. Any chance he can rep the US? He did spend a year in Mexico which might have wrecked it.
Acosta.......Now thats a player Id love to bring on in.......his passing is just surgical. Can always use a player like that. Total opposite of our current Acosta's passing
This what I have. I know my assumptions are bit different than yours. My question is: Of all my "X"s who are you most excited to add in? Tillman is the only player I am excited about. Vines and Sands have come up a lot. I loved Scally's highlights from the Bundesliga last year., but his USMNT debut did not go very well. Which makes me really nervous (as a lesson) for throwing in Tillman or Vazquez. The quotas (4 Forwards for example) are not fixed of course. 3 GK: Turner, Steffen, X 4 CB: Richards, Zimmerman, X, X 4 FB: Dest, Robinson, Yedlin, X 2 DM: Adams, Acosta 4 CM: McKennie, Musah, LDLT, X 5 W: Pulisic, Weah, Reyna, Aaronson, X 4 F: Jesus, Pefok, X, X
I would take one of your Forward X's and put them in defense somewhere. Candidates are Scally, Cannon, and Sands.
GK: Johnson CB: Long, CCV, McKenzie FB: Scally M: I see Aaronson as a midfielder, not as a winger W: Morris F: Pepi, [Vazquez, Tillman]
I saw a stat in another thread where it said he lead the PL in passes received in space or something like that. With stats like that I don't move him from winger and hope that Reyna can get healthy and Tillman keeps improving to be the more true #10 midfield options.
I would be surprised if Tillman isn’t selected. He brings so much more to the table for an elite competition than Roldan. I understand why Gregg might bring Arriola and Morris because they can do specific things well. But I don’t see Mr Vibes being on the roster. Name him as an assistant or something if you want him in the locker room.
Interesting point made in this article about a long extended MLS camp in advance of the World Cup. https://www.backheeled.com/how-the-mls-calendar-could-impact-the-usmnts-world-cup-squad/ For instance, depending on how far Cincinnati is able to get in the playoffs or if they don't make it, someone like Vazquez may have an extended camp where Berhalter may be able to get a long look before he has to make a final roster decision.
Sarge having a good day so far today. If he has more good days I suppose that makes for a Sept camp invitation dilemma for Gregg.
Bullsh*t. He didn't show that, when he played for the national team and he isn't showing it, against a club better than the ones he plays against in the SPL.
Then you must be mistaking him for another player. Read the Athletic article to understand all the dimensions of your wrongness.
