Lol, again, the two statements aren’t contradictory. The park district isn’t going to want to lose our 17 games on top of the Bears 11 games and there’s not much extra they can go after during the Bears season- outdoor concerts in Chicago aren’t gonna fill the stadium in November and they’re not going to be playing college football there every weekend. If the city could have more summer concerts they don’t need to wait for the Bears to leave, they could be doing that right now- it’s almost as if there’s a finite list of acts that can actually fill a football stadium with fans that happen to be touring at any given time. And those concerts shouldn’t cause the Fire to move games to SeatGeek if they’re planned in advance and the team can schedule around them using the extra dates they have available with the Bears gone. I doubt BTS is going to announce a tour July 1st and play Soldier Field July 2nd. It will be better for the Fire with the Bears gone. The Fire still will not be the #1 tenant, even if they’re the only tenant. Those two statements do not contradict each other.
You're laughably wrong. The Fire are very important to the Park District and future Soldier Field plans, if the Bears leave the Fire will be dictating terms.
But it'll be hard for the city to rely on these concerts where there's a new competitor with 80,000 seats, a roof, and more parking. They're going to lose a ton of them, if not most.
Not going to argue with this. The city will still try to get as many concerts as possible though when the Bears leave. I guess its just a wait and see what happens.
Perhaps it’ll be something like the Rose Bowl. If you substitute UCLA games for the Fire, you end up with a few concerts and a flea market. Cool. https://www.rosebowlstadium.com/events/calendar/list
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Spoken like someone who's never negotiated with a facility in their life. If the Bears leave, the stadium will be fighting for it's existence. The *Fire* are nowhere close to something that guarantees that. You only dictate terms when YOU are what the place NEEDS. We are *never* going to be what SF needs. We're, AT BEST, "a nice bonus". Nobody who struggles to fill 25% of a stadium is "incredibly important" to a facility, especially when the other 75% has to sit unused and can't be sold to other groups (as if could be if you were dealing with a hotel or convention center). Yes, in the absence of other things, they are something to hold onto but the *incredibly important* business are things that have the chance to fill 100% of the stadium and that's not us. EVERYTHING that comes along that will do that will shove us out because even if it's a one shot, it's more important than us. At least now we know the topic where you're the king of Dunning-Krugerstan.
Except they *do* need to wait. The Bears have usage limits on the stadium. You see them affecting us (nothing within X days of their use). Summer is when the grass grows. Concerts are demonstrably hard on the grass. The number of events they can book in the summer is limited while the Bears are the primary tenant.
It’s more limited by the number of acts that can fill a football stadium with fans that are touring at any given time. If The Rolling Stones want to play in July, they’ll play in July and the Bears won’t be able to do much about it. And as far as the post-Bears reality is concerned, as someone else mentioned, many of those big acts are likely to play in the giant, air-conditioned, retractable roof stadium in Arlington Heights over SF. So again, will the Fire be still inconvenienced after the Bears leave? Yes. Will they be in a better position to minimize those inconveniences both contractually (e.g. only X games can be moved per season) and practically (some of those games are moved to other dates in SF vs. SeatGeek)? Also yes.
I’m just annoyed I have to drive at all whole reason I got season tickets was because it was easily accessible without a car
I wish the front office had prepared a plan since they knew before the season started that there would be at least one game at Toyota Park. Their lack of preparedness is evidence of a huge blind spot.
I think this has a lot to do with the massive turn over before and, especially, since Joe took over the team. While cleaning out most of them was necessary, they lost quite a bit of institutional knowledge along the way.
I’ll be less generous about it. Joe wanted out of Toyota Park for concrete reasons. Right or wrong he wanted out and simply failed to solve for this inevitability. It’s basically incompetence.
FWIW, Pub to Pitch is back with three locations – on the north, west, and south sides. Sunday, buses depart at 3:30pm from: Heineken Pub97 at Fire Pitch (3626 N Talman Ave, Chicago, IL 60618) Roots Pizza (1924 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622) One City Tap (3115 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60608)
This is great but should have been locations doing it already, all season. This type of reactionary action just shows how little they understand what they are supposed to be doing.
yeah, I think I agree I suppose they could be pushing for pre-game drinking/eating to occur at Soldier Field and could claim that the need for a shuttle is much lower than at SeatGeek because of the public transit options, but it does seem like a lost opportunity to expand community engagement
I think this is spot on the money. I imagine all agree this is missed opportunity for the entire season.
so my STH discount on the parking is $5, but I have to do it in advance which means I have to use Ticketmaster which has a $3 convenience fee which effectively wipes out any STH benefit sweet setup guys
Why does this club keep shooting itself in the foot? How hard would it be to send every STH a “coupon” for a $5 parking discount. You give the attendant the “coupon” and $20 and you cut Ticketmaster out of the process. FFS!
