I have to ask, was the team choice influenced by Landon Donovan at all.

Yes, primarily. Also kind of had interest in them when Joe Max Moore played for them in the early 2000s and of course Tim Howard.

I am a former Bruin! Not sure what Joe is up to these days. Wouldn't be surprised if he is with Bruce and the Revs in some capacity...lol Ok, your turn!

Early 90s I worked in a Deli in DTLA doing deliveries and other odds and ends, the Manger and a couple of the workers were from England, as I was heavily into the Punk/Anarchy scene, I had a fascination with England we hit it off and hung out a lot after work.

As it turns out they were from North London and rabid Tottenham Hotspur fans, they had a shrine to Tottenham pointing towards North London and they would tell me stories about the history of Tottenham and do all the chants and stuff, also this was before the PL was on TV,so they would have friends send them over VHS tapes of the matches and we would watch them, there fanaticism and hatred for arsenal sucked me in and I've been Spurs ever since, heck I've been a Spurs fan longer then I've been a Galaxy fan.

those guys also made me realize that One Step Beyond by Madness is one of the most underrated albums ever.

Oh cool, I was into punk too. What was our favorite Blink 182 album? :D:D:D

I never got into anarcho-punk, though a roommate of mine in the late 90s was a huge Crass fan. In the early 90's I was into straightedge/NYC hardcore.

Your origin story for following Tottenham is a legit story for sure!

hahaha, cool, I'm a huge Crass fan, still listen to them too this day, I listened to a lot of bands, Vice Squad, The Exploited, Los Crudos, Naked Aggression, the more well known ones too, like the Germs and the Dead Kennedy's, its still my favorite genre of music and I'll always be a Punk at heart

That's cool. I'll occasionally punk out too. Back in the day, my favorites were 411, A Chorus or Disapproval, Agnostic Front, shelter. Youth of Today, gorilla biscuits, and minor threat.

Have you noticed the British will refer to the Galaxy as Galaxy or LA Galaxy, no definite article, but will refer to MLS and the MLS?

It makes sense, it’s the EPL or BPL and I think most teams don’t make use of a definite article in the formal team name, but it does crop up in informal.

Is this like freeway numbers? For example, I always say "Take the 405", while those outside of SoCal say "Take 405". I confess to being mixed in how I refer to MLS depending on the context.

Interesting fact I learned - because I was so confused when I moved here with "the" before the freeway numbers: Originally all the freeways here had names and the numbers weren't codified. So it made sense to put "the" in front of it. You took the Hollywood Freeway to the Ventura Freeway or you could held south on the Long Beach Freeway, etc. Then once the numbers were codified and it made more sense to use the numbers, people were so accustomed to using "the" that it stuck.

Sorta like how we are use to "the" EPL and "La" Liga, etc. that we often attach "the" to MLS even though grammatically that makes no sense.

As long as people don't refer to OC as The OC...thank you.

Drove my midwest friends crazy by placing "the" in front of the highway/freeway name.

Not disagreeing with you but I always thought that it made more sense somehow to use the article when referring to a specific object like a freeway.

Of course, I am not an English expert and freely admit to mangling the language for close to 70 years.

Not using the definite article for team names seems to be a universal football convention that is distinct from the US approach to team names. Makes sense, since most football clubs are place names, but it's even the case where the teams have a nickname where using the US convention of adding a "the" could be appropriate; in the US, the Scottish club would definitely be "The Rangers"; "The Arsenal", "The Wolves", "The Young Boys", even "The Chivas" or "The Xolos". I do like it when people just say "Galaxy".

It's also the convention in England to use plural verb for collective nouns like team names (e.g. "Man United have to sign a striker this winter", "Galaxy are struggling to keep possession") where in the US we use the singular.

I am now adding "the" when I address everyone here. Excellent analysis, the MPNumber9.

Anybody been catching the Women U-20 World Cup matches? I only caught it late in the day by way of Japan v France quarterfinal and now I'm hooked and I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.

Started with I don't think the little Japanese team will have too much of chance against the bigger, stronger looking french players but I was wrong. The Japan team is so smooth, so disciplined, so tenacious that it makes up for the difference in size.

I was very impressed and wondered what the hell am I watching here? I was watching excellence, commitment and class. My God if Galaxy played half as well as these ladies we would not have a problem such as we do.

Anyway, semis tomorrow Thursday. Spain v Netherlands and then Japan v Brazil.

We should invite Vanney to watch this.

Perfect visual. Both horrified by and loved that movie.

I may have to go with that setup to get myself to watch the next few Galaxy games.

Yep, and Japan is in the final, taking out Brazil 2-1 in regulation. Final vs Spain should be interesting.

Reading about Europa League draw. Pundits discussing "tricky away matches."

    Are you kidding me? Norway?
