Going to Qatar 2022: tickets, accommodations, etc. (non-politics)

Any local here can share their thoughts on the Mesaimeer area? Some cheap accommodation there, similarly priced to the Ezdan Hotel at West Bay. The former is much closer to Al Thumama stadium though, which is great for me, since I would be attending M52 during my stay there.

So, which place do you recommend to stay, Mesaimeer or West Bay?

 

West Bay 100%. Mesaimeer is quite suburban, nothing much to do there other than the stadium itself wherears Ezdan is walking distance to the corniche, the major sites. Isn't even a debate for me.

 

ive got a couple of semi Cat 4 to each semi... we'll see how it goes. I'll send a surveillance team ahead to find the weak spot in their security measures. Nowhere in the FIFA site does it says ID is a requirement for entry into the match! Cat4 is cradled in between cat3s... we shall see

Mind you, I don't know what it'll be like during the world cup. Maybe there'll be a fan zone or something happening in the Al Thumama area during the WC, but of little interest to a tourist / visitor otherwise. I don't think there's even metro access so you'll be very car dependent. WB is prime real estate on the other hand. Metro access, walkable well by Qatar standards at least, but definitely more interesting than Mesaimeer imo.

 

A QID is not needed to open a resident account. You can open a resident account with a passport. It’s an option in the drop down . It allows you to be a citizen of another country.

 

Just got back from getting killed at the casino in Vegas last 4 days did we get any new, significant news or are we still in a lull until November?

Also, anyone else flying Qatar Airways nonstop get their flights rescheduled without their approval?

 

My flight from Houston to Doha was rescheduled once and the Doha to Istanbul was canceled and I was rescheduled on another flight. I was able to cancel and rebook at a lower price so it actually worked out for me.

 

Any predictions on what will happen to the main applicant tickets. Are we going to be able to transfer those tickets like we are able now the guest tickets?

 

I got ANOTHER rescheduling today in the morning upon waking up. So that’s now my 4th flight change since I booked in April

 

Today, I got some extras:
- One CAT4 Ticket QF Match 57.
- One CAT4 Ticket QF Match 59.
- Two CAT4 Tickets England - Wales.
- Two CAT3 Tickets England - USA.
Looking for more in the coming 2 days.

Today makes it a week since they last dropped an Argentina game…and probably since the intern has had to return to job hunting

 

QID contains passport details as well. I assume FIFA provided option to open a domestic account with passport number is to cater those who are currently processing their visa & QIDs as the whole process takes about two to four weeks. Every resident must carry their QIDs and if they decide to enforce Cat 4 only to residents it will be as easy as pie.

 

So I just booked the Ezdan Hotel and cancelled my old booking at the Barwa clusters. In case anyone is looking for cheap accommodation from Dec 2 - 5, the cluster should pop up soon at the accommodation portal (I had previously booked the 120 usd studio).

Those of you who changed accommodation and got a refund on the cancelled booking, did you have to write an e-mail asking for it or was the refund issued automatically?

I got in touch with the support team before cancelling and got the usual response that I could get a refund as long as I booked a new place with them on the same dates.

 

Yep. I would bet that they will check for Qatar ID or at least a domestic Hayya card for sold out games at Category 4 gates.

 

I bought 2 tickets from the resale platform using a friend's card. His bank says payment went through and FIFA says it was declined. I never received a buying confirmation on email from fifa.

Do you have a domestic Hayya card? If not, you are probably screwed. Pretty easy for them to have the scanner at the Category 4 gates only allow entry to domestic Hayya card holders.

Why would you even risk buying Category 4 tickets? Seems kind of silly to save a little money and risk missing the match.

 

My money is on there being no checks whatsoever. FIFA just care about their money and by that stage it's already in the bank

I'm staying at the Mövenpick Doha just south of MIA Park near the Corniche.

 

I would like to have seen multiple 40,000 capacity fan festivals. I think we'll see overcrowding/lockouts. I know Moscow was closed multiple time due to being full. I hope that doesn't happen here. Would love to be able just to pop in to watch a half a game or so of a game in between travelling to and from 1pm and 10pm games.

 

The full capacity stadiums for a wc semi means more pressure on the stewards and empty seats for a semi mean a failure fifa won't want to admit happened. the time to verify cat 4s is now til last minute phase i reckon
