Jebo’s goal was much more impressive than either Ferreira goal, one of which was a tap-in and one of which he tried to pass and the ball was deflected back to his feet and into the goal - incredibly lucky. Jebo’s was a banger. Jebo should have been an all-star.
I saw the starting lineups with my wife and we both kind of laughed. I don't thing we have bad attacking but still the mismatch there makes the result unsurprising. It was nice to see the team press and the subs put in some effort although Dallaa had the game wrapped up so they weren't going to press as much, making the Quakes "look good". My takeaway is the hope that games like this will ensure a proper new head coach and style of play that isn't a ridiculous waste of time and the the talents of the players we have. The Quakes should be attacking on the run. A lot.
Yeah, it's pretty telling when you lead the league in possession and you're last in GA! When you are attacking slowly and deliberately against a set defense and you are defending helter skelter against jail breaks, you're not going to win those games very often. We do press pretty hard from time to time, which is a nice change / look, but I think faster counterattacks needs to be in our DNA when our first instinct is to slow it down and "ease on down the road" to the final 3rd. Essentially we are trying to play like Barcelona, only w/o the elite attacking talent to break down defenses. Small detail!
Not only was Jebo snubbed from the all star game but he was snubbed from the list of snubbed players. That's a double snubbing! Also, why isn't he getting scouted like other players in MLS are? That's a triple snub!! https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/by-the-numbers-2022-mls-all-star-team-snubs
Yep. If you look at the MLS all star roster there is very few players from teams at the bottom of the table (actually only 1). I think more specifically there is very few players from teams that aren't helping push the league forward (in this case one could argue 0 players were selected from 'ambition-less' clubs). Taxi is the only player who was selected from a team any where near the bottom of the table. Taxi himself is an expensive DP that represents at least some ambition from DC who also went out and hired Wayne Rooney and I think they also signed some other players as well. So DC is at least showing some ambition.
that's the most incredibly frustrating thing about this year, it was so obviously a zombie season from the word go. the lack of ambition on display here has been staggering, even by Quakes standards. it's no great wonder then that the league ignores the Quakes - we're not even trying! it's tough to see us falling even further behind under Chris Leitch.
Notice the lack of comments here? It’s hard to even get inspired about complaining. OUR team is shit. We’ve been over our weaknesses time and again, there’s not much new to say. Same old same old. I did notice that Luchi Gonzales was in the stadium. The announcers thought he was there to watch USMNT players, but he might have been watching the Quakes because he’s going to be our new Head Coach? Maybe? Whatever. Losing interest fast. Go Quakesfans!!
Yeah, I don't even think it's a concerted effort to lock out 'bottom' teams from the all-star game. I think it's just the natural consequence. The players from the teams with the most engaged fanbase got voted in. As we all know that's not the Quakes. It looks like Heath's strategy was to simply pick the best players from the best teams for the positions he needed to fill out the team (and it seems a bias towards Loons and national team players). In other words he picked winners - not stats leaders. And Garber always seems to pick 'up and coming' players and we can't complain too much about him because he picked Cade last year.
natural consequence sounds right to me too. unfair to Jebo, for sure, but we're just so easy to overlook. I wish I saw any signs of that changing.
Many have said that Cade has done nothing significant, or improved much since his call up by Don Garber for the All Stars in 2021. It obviously did not help him, at all. Maybe we should be glad Jebo is untouched? I still feel bad that he was snubbed, though. He is more worthy than many who were there last week and light years better than Cade appeared to be a year ago!
The season is inconsequential for us at this point. Jebo's golden boot race, new signings might eventually get some minutes, and the fight to not be the very bottom team. That's about it. I only need to see highlights to know how Jebo is doing. So until the new signings start to play I'm not that interested anymore.
Jebo unleashed a couple of mean, nasty shots from distance yesterday, one the goal but also another one that almost caught the GK out of position. I can’t help wondering if there wasn’t a bit of “F you” behind those shots. If he wasn’t feeling it I was feeling it for him . As for Cade there was obviously a bit of Adu-ian hype behind that Don Gerber all-star pick that probably did Cade no favors. Jebo is 25 or so has been around the league for a while. Don’t think he’d have any problem handling it.
Rooting for another Ebobisse goal! Top 5: MLS leading scorers (2022) 1. Sebastian Driussi (Austin FC, Argentina), 17 goals (+1) 2. Brandon Vazquez (FC Cincinnati, USA), 15 goals (+1) 3. Jeremy Ebobisse (San Jose, USA), 14 goals (+1) 2 3. Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas, USA), 14 goals (+2) 5. Taty Castellanos (NYCFC, Argentina), 13 goals 5. Hany Mukhtar (Nashville SC, Germany) 13 goals
To Nathan, or to Yueill, or to JT, or to...? Oh, you mean for the All-Star snub. (but he really might be wanting to offer a middle finger to his defense for their contributions to the stats of the other league-leading goal scorers)
