A point in altitude is honestly decent. Should have had 3 if more clinical in the first half. Ref was a joke, and I thought bad on both sides of the calls.
Thoughts from the game: Those subs were peak Porter. At this point I just expect it. Ref bad. Does Lalas's hair improve his headers?
Loved the announcers. This gem in the 97th minute -- "Columbus getting a sense they could steal all three points" Hurtado doing a Hurtado "Well, not with efforts like that they won't."
Normally, I would be happy with a point on the road at altitude. But this was not a very good Rapids team and it should have been a game where we make up for some of the points dropped at home. That being said... it felt like tie game situation so I will take sad comfort with my Grouchy point...
I'm happy with the effort, somewhat satisfied with the point, and completely disappointed that Porter didn't sub earlier, and in greater numbers. Morris deserves more than five minutes in any game, and especially in this one. I was really surprised that he didn't come on much sooner.
Disappointing result. Colorado's defense is not good. Coming into the game they were giving up 1.6 goals per game. We had shiny new toys Cucho and supposedly back on MVP form Lucas rolling and had the opportunity to remind us why we were wise to give up both Lalas Abouubakar and Gyasi. Somehow, we manage only 1 goal. The advanced stats aren't any better. 1.4 xG. Another blown lead. Another typical Porter performance. Not impressed. Need better.
I rewatched the condensed highlights this morning over at the league website. Of the four minutes of highlights there was approximately 45 seconds of 2nd half highlights. To my recollection they showed no Crew shot on goal, or even a half chance. Compare that, for instance, with Austin FC scoring 3 second half goals last night. Or even Inter Miami scoring two and coming from behind twice. I maintain that the Crew is a good team and should make the playoffs. But, our inability to adjust in the middle of a match, compared to other teams, is what will hold this team back from it's highest ceiling.
Comparing Josh Wolff to Caleb Porter is a crime against Crewmanity. But good God, Josh is doing a helluva job down there. We only wish we had a manager like that.
We do not have a single player off the bench who is dangerous. Porter is searching. Yeboah & Molino behind Hurtado & Igbekeme out wide. The ref let them hack Diaz out of the game. Etienne gets into good spots & then cannot produce or make the right play. We are OK but need better wing play and the bench beyond Morris and the 3rd CB does not add much of anything.
Is Yaw Yeboah still on the team? Apparently Porter has no faith in him. I thought the subbing was atrocious. 3 points were there for the taking and Porter sits back with tired starters. I have no idea why Morris was only used for 5 minutes. He’s known to have a good motor. The last 5-10 minutes were pretty unique in that both teams were playing for the tie and visibly wasting time.
As a reminder, Yeboah costs us $1.5-1.7M in a transfer fee, and was a TAM acquisition, meaning he's being paid above the DP threshold. Appeared in 15 matches, started 10. 769 minutes played (15th on the team, and Cucho will probably pass him within the next month), Zero goals, 1 assist. His passing percentage isn't anything to write home about, 21st on the team.
I wouldn’t think there were many highlights of Austin or Miami getting smoked in the first half of their games, tbf.
