Bingo. Tyler has a lot of real good qualities. Tyler has some real limitations. He can be a real asset in the right system with the proper support.
When he is asked to do things he can’t his limitations show. He can still be effective at a very good level.
Think John Brooks. Right system, support and mindset he can look real good. Take one of those away and he can struggle.
Tyler will always be valued at a very good level, but those shortcomings keep him form top tier.
    I’m happy to have him.

Maybe. He definitely had trouble getting the players at Leipzig to buy in and give their all. He didn’t seem to have that problem with Leeds last season.

He doesn’t vary his tactics much. That creates some limits on what his teams can do when they get found out, but I don’t know if that will be as big of an issue at Leeds.

I actually think he is going to have some success early if he can get the team playing how he wants. The question is going to be what he does when the other managers start to figure out his system and tactically adjust. I don’t think he’s shown much flexibility to react with tactical changes of his own thus far in his career.

Fotmob has Aaronson as the lowest rated played for Leeds with a mediocre 6.3:

    https://www.fotmob.com/match/3900935/matchfacts/leeds-united-vs-wolverhampton-wanderers

That is yet another data point that indicates, to me, that those people don't bother watching the games.

Sofascore, Fotmob, etc. seem to have a system where they throw darts at a board to assign score.

I use Flashscore for convenience but half the time they have the lineups completely wrong, placing the guy playing RB on CM or the winger as the striker.

Do NOT trust the soccer media. You have to watch the game.

Well it’s a bit late - but congrats to Jesse and Leeds for winning their first game of the season! Always good to start with 3 points!

I have zero analytical skills. I just live and die in each moment of the game. I kinda depend on the media to tell me what happened in a match I just watched.

I think Scuffed did a podcast with one of the newer Data Sciencey American soccer journalists (Jon Arnold?) who said something along the lines of FotMob stat trackers are just guys sitting in a warehouse in Egypt watching all the games and tracking all their stats. So, in a way, it's subjectively humanly objective. For me the ratings generally align with what I perceive as reality, with two or three seeingly always a half point or point different than expected.

Aaronson's 6.3 was more than a point off, so maybe Mo who was tasked with watching it was hung over or something.

Sofascore also rated him low though. Same thing went for UCL against Bayern, even though the eye test had him playing well. And then he went for 30+m.

Metrics are good for the rule. There are notable exceptions however. Aaronson seems to be one.

I think the issues are he's a low volume player on the ball, he's not directly involved in a lot of goals, has had poor lucky w/ that lately, & he doesn't outright win the ball. The metrics aren't accurately weighting his pressures, deflections, secondary assists, rebounds created, context, etc.; that reflect how you played comprehensively.

I guess that would be the next tweak to their system. Until then we have the eye test to fill gaps. It's unreliable. But has potential to be more valid. Depends on the impartiality and knowledge of the onlooker.

0 subs before the 84th minute in the hottest game in Premier League history as Leeds blow a 2-goal lead. Not great game management.

A draw away that feels like a loss. Hoping they can continue undefeated for another few weeks and not rue the 2 points they missed today

I checked Marsch's post-game quotes to see if he had any explanation for waiting so long to bring in subs, and it really sounds like he was just paralyzed with indecision here. Not great.

There were changes I had in my mind but I wasn't sure that it was necessary and before we even had a chance to see if we could settle the match down with what they adjusted to, the two goals came so quickly.

Probably, if I could do it again, I would have made the changes I made with Klich and Luis earlier and then maybe we could have controlled things a little bit but I also thought if we played effectively with five in the back, we could have shut the match down.

Leeds is negotiating to acquire Kai Wagner LB 25, from Philly Union, £2.5 million. He's been very good for Philly, he's tough/physical, athletic and crosses well. But MLS is his highest level as starter--he came from 3 Bundesliga in 2019. I'm sure the fans will be sceptical just based on the slim resume and him being a player of a friend of Marsch. I always thought he was pretty damn good for 3BL player. Seems kind of a risk.

It‘s a cheap one. I think the upside for 2.5 mill is pretty good. Bliga team were rumored tobe looking at him last year if I recall.

They needs some speed there. Left back and another forward are the two things the general Leeds fan are all in consensus about. Now that Bamford is hurt the forward issue becomes glaring.

Yeah I forgot that Benfica! and Dinamo Zagreb are also interested.

Have you heard any recent rumors on forwards? They haven't been able to find one who prefer Leeds over some other club.

A decent forward will cost a lot so can they or will they pay for one!!! That is echoed. They all want one but where will they get one?:D

God, I just realized that a massive failure by Marsch, given how much he is/might further rely on MLS talent, would also have a cataclysmic effect on American soccer as a whole too. They'd have collectively failed to get it done on the biggest stage. And all of this capitulating with a final season of Ted Lasso. Good god that would stink. It would take US soccer culture 5 more years to wipe the Mickey Mouse failure off of us.

Also a huge litmus test for MLS, obviously

Firm disagree on all of this. There are enough Americans involved in and around the highest levels of the sport that a failure of one of them isn't a reflection on everyone else.

It's Marsch + Adams + Aaronson + (either or both of the other MLS signings mentioned). They represent the overwhelming contingent currently in the Premier League. You can lump Harrison into that group if you really wanted. I don't think they will fail and I think all 4 of those guys are net positives at this level, TBD on any future MLS signings if any.

But it would massively suck if they did get relegated. It's a brutally tough league and they're inexperienced and a lot of people want them to fail.
