yup, theyre in that transition period to mega club. Christian Pulisic is exactly the sort of player they should be after to facilitate the transition.
That was a gross tackle on Ledezma. Goes to show you don’t have to be playing in Scotland or the lower English divisions to be at the mercy of reckless hacks.
Mostly because they don’t want to end up like Everton who spent and wasted a ton of money, and now can’t really spend any more because of the EPL’s financial fair play rules. Newcastle has some cushion because Mike Ashley spent so little money, but they are definitely being very careful about how they go about their transfer business. There’s a good thread here on the limitations When Newcastle United were bought by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the expectation was that #NUFC would splash out on players, due to the enormous wealth of the new owners, but that hasn’t really been the case. So why is the club not spending big?— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) August 8, 2022 With where they are trying to get to though, it’s definitely not a club that Christian Pulisic is too good for. Unless he has ethical concerns with their ownership, which is understandable.
With more or less every league underway this weekend, here's an update on YA USMNT* summer transfers: Completed Transfers Turner to Arsenal (EPL) Richards to Crystal Palace (EPL) Adams to Leeds (EPL) Aaronson to Leeds (EPL) de la Torre to Celta Vigo (La Liga) Pefok to Union Berlin (Bundesliga) Horvath on loan to Luton Town (Championship) Steffen on loan to Middlesbrough (Championship) Hoppe to Middlesbrough (Championship) Trusty on loan to Birmingham City (Championship) Bassett on loan to Fortuna Sittard (Eredivisie) Booth to Utrecht (Eredivisie) Tilman on loan to Rangers (SPL) Carter-Vickers loan to Celtic made permanent (SPL) Reynolds on loan to Westerlo (Belgium) Konrad on loan to Olympiakos (Greece) Wright loan to Antalyaspor made permanent (Turkey) Henry to Reims B (Championnat National 2) Slonina to Chelsea (EPL), but loaned back to Chicago (MLS) Gioacchini to Orlando City (MLS) Moore to Nashville (MLS) Miazga to Cincinnati (MLS) Latest Semi-Reliable Transfer Rumors Dest to Man United (SPORT on 8/12, also mentions Chelsea as a possibility) Weah to Valencia (L'Equipe on 8/12) Pulisic on loan to Newcastle (Athletic on 8/10, only says that Newcastle would consider him, following recent reporting from the Guardian that Tuchel doesn't trust him) Latest Less Reliable Transfer Rumors Jones to Anderlecht (NFLmx on 8/5, 90min on 8/10) McKennie to Tottenham (Daily Mail on 7/26) ??? Brooks to ??? (the guy who spread the Saudi Arabia rumor admitted to being a fake account btw) *Trying to be comprehensive there by including anyone who's been in a USMNT camp since last summer, even just as January camp training fodder, but not everyone who's ever appeared for the USMNT (like Altidore or Novakovich). Hopefully I didn't miss anyone.
They all seem good. At least I have no complaints except Aaronson to Leeds which was a mistake. It would have been fun to see Miazga at Rangers with Sands but it looks like Cincinnati are on the way to something special and I can't blame Miazga for wanting to settle down.
It's a trade-off, not a mistake. He takes a big step up in terms of league competition (from Austria to the EPL), but loses access to the Champion's League.
This is a bit of hyperbole. Their average finish since Ferguson left is 4.5 and the lowest they’ve finished over that time is 7th which was the year Moyes was coach. They have issues, but they aren’t an average to above average EPL team. Their still very much a big 6 team and have been competitive amongst that group. The issue is more that they’ve fallen off compared to the standard set by Ferguson and have been nowhere close to winning the title. And Man City and Liverpool have gone to a completely different level that they aren’t close to competing with. The problem is they have no idea what they’re doing in terms of bringing in players. They’ve spent plenty of money, just very little of it wisely. They also seem to let transfers drag out like they have with De Jong when they should have moved on and signed someone else by now. Even now they probably need to sign a right back, two midfielders, and a striker and don’t seem to be making good choices on that front.
Between now and November he's gonna have way more EPL matches than UCL. I get your point but I'd rather him seeing much higher level play once or twice a week.
Reyna did see action in one or two of Dortmund's preseason games. I think they're just taking it slow before he takes on the intensity of league matches.
Pulisic on the bench again today. He needs to get out of Chelsea. Clearly Tuchel doesn't rate him and also trying to bring in another attacker in Aubameyang. Sure they don't play the same position but if he wants another attacker that doesn't bode well for Pulisic.
So far today, we have the following players whose matches have finished: Steffen going 90 minutes and making 3 saves in a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United. His best save is highlighted below. Hoppe made a stoppage time cameo in the same match, his debut for Middlesbrough. Pefok went 70 minutes and had 1 decent attempt on goal that I noticed in a 0-0 draw against Mainz. Cannon went 90 minutes in a 2-1 win for Boavista. Vines went 90 minutes in a 1-0 win for Antwerp. Palmer-Brown went 90 minutes in a 3-0 defeat for Troyes. Carter-Vickers went 90 minutes in a 5-0 win for Celtic. 1558821935508852737 is not a valid tweet id

I don’t think he would yet, but I think playing in both September games would probably get him there.
VeneziAmerica rockin the yank trifecta against Genoa. Busio, Tessman, Novakovich all starting against Genoa
Did Puli do anything of note in his 10 minutes? Based on what I saw last week, he looked a little bulked up. Maybe a half step not as quick, but a little stronger.
Yes, he was in perfect position to fast break one on one v. keeper from halfway line late in the game with Spurs pushing high to tie the game but Cheeks was too slow and missed the opportunity to pass to Puli for a classic counter. That would have sealed the game. He looks much faster now. His pace is more solid and under control. I always thought he lost a lot of speed with too much variance in body control. He is really at the top of his game these days and the minutes he is getting from Tuchel will keep him in great condition for WC.
