is it safe to check this thread again? are you guys finally done with the (own) goal now? im trying to make sense of why the play was almost entirely down the (leeds attacking) left side today. just one of those things, i guess.
4 points first two games 3 at home, 1 on the road - in brutal heat which is the standard for most mid table teams. Bamford now injured … Not poor not great. BA looked ok - I think he now got a taste of how he is going to get hacked down and will just have to motor through it. Tyler looked solid again and more so in the second half. One step at a time.
Active but ineffective. I doubt he's getting an above-average score today, but with the people doing player ratings in the media you never know. Ok, let's see what they think: https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-player-ratings-southampton-24749072 Adams a bit above average with a 7, Brenden with a mediocre 6. Fair IMO. Brenden Aaronson Much quieter than last weekend. No less pressure or work rate off the ball. 6 https://motleedsnews.com/matchday/r...ow-leeds-united-player-ratings-v-southampton/ Brenden Aaronson – 6 Not quite up to the standards of his man-of-the-match debut but still looked like a very tidy threat breaking forward against this Saints side. However, he disappeared a bit as they grew back into it.
Not a bad result, but gut wrenching nevertheless. To be dominant for 70 minutes and piss it away feels like a loss. Squarely on Marsch, unfortunately.
It seemed like he dredged up/won the loose high ball in the box, leading to the first Leeds goal, and then he delivered the corner kick cross on their second goal. Neither formal assists but probably would deem it effective enough for a 6 rating.
Yeah and it was very dry. When we have a day like that down here it's a relief, you can put in a solid day of work in the yard. I thought the speed of play was noticeably slow for a premier league game. It looked like a good MLS game in spring. Ps. Just kidding.
No but to blame every mistake on the same coach who coached the beginning of the game is, in my opinion, a knee jerk reaction
Marsch didn't tell the Leeds left back to let the right side Southampton attacker to run circles around him.
Leeds have a problem with that new signing, Kristensen. He is not yet ready, but could come good over time. That second goal was on him, and he looked shaky at the back when dealing with any long/aerial ball, or any physicality from opposing players. Aaronson was decent but the player rating media was correct, he did disappear late in the match. Probably works down. As we all agree, Marsch learned a lesson today. As soon as the tide turned, he should have made subs around the 70th minute.
Well placing all the blame on him may be harsh - but it seemed pretty obvious he was late to freshen a side exhausted by heat and effort. His in game adjustments are not his strength.
Though I agree he should have brought in earlier who he eventually brought in, my thoughts on why he might not have: the bench available for this game was a bit weakened due to, 1. James had to come in at 28' and 2. Forshaw and Sinisterra just back from injury, and 3. Greenwood and Summerville too young/inexperienced for the game intensity.
Sorry, but this thread title is lame. Had to say it. Aaronson may be the only US player who attracts a cheery and optimistic Teenage Fanclub
Brenden could have a new/old teammate. Leeds expect a busy week in the transfer market. Talks ongoing for Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner. 25-year-old is very creative and technical. Jesse Marsch driving this one. Benfica pushing, too. Che Adams (a player Leeds tried for in 2020) is also a possibility.— Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) August 14, 2022
He should have subbed earlier, plain and simple. I realize he might be concerned about the quality of the replacement, but jello legs and spiritless players get beat.
Going directly from MLS to the Premiership is a bit of an ask, mostly because of the difference in pace. Wagner did play for Schalke 04 II, but still, this would be a much higher level. I think it's a gamble.
