I just wonder if there is a world where Barca can just sign big stars to play in money-making friendlies and Champions League.

They don't seem to be lacking in the "creativity" department lately...

Dest not on the list of squad players, wow. Looks like he’s getting shoved out. Brutal.

Bummer, in a few years it may be viewed as a blessing in disguise. Club seems like it's about to implode.

I dunno. They seem to be wheeling and dealing right now trying to get their players signed. If they somehow get away with all of these shady dealings then I think they will win a lot of games this season... both domestically and in Europe. But they still might need to sell Dest to get them over the line. Perhaps that is why he is not on the squad list? Barca has also kept him off the squad list in the past because he took a slight knock in training that we don't hear about until after. At any rate... I am hoping that Barca trades Dest to a team that really needs him. I think it may be Barca that ends up regretting it as they would be very thin at RB if he left.

Current rumors suggest a reunion with ten Hag at Manchester United.

Even under duress, Dest remains master of his fate - he’ll have to agree to terms with any new club for a deal to be completed.

Unless his feelings have changed I’d be surprised to see him go. He speaks of Barca as his lifelong dream.

This says Chelsea is trying to sign him as well...

    https://manutdnews.com/man-utd-already-negotiating-with-barcelona-for-sergino-dest/

likely as a backup to Reece James. Man U under increasing scrutiny... but at least there I think he would be the de facto #1. dspence is right in that playing for Barca is Dest's dream... so I am not at all sure Dest would even agree to a trade to either of these teams.

Puli's supposed to be the backup to James.

Tuchel moved away from that, seemed to prefer an aging Azpi to Pulisic there.

He’d definitely start there as Man U needs a right back. They’re a mess too though in a different way from Barcelona.

    The 73072
Xavi has been playing Araujo at RB, which will allow a rotation of Kounde, Garcia, Christensen, and Pique at CB. If needed, they have used Sergi Roberto at RB in the past, so they have RB cover.

LB is the issue. Dest actually played there a few times last year and looked better on the left than he did on the right! (Maybe just a faulty impression of mine?)

I'd like to see him stay because I think he'll get chances, but if he's been left off the roster he's either injured or being sent a clear message that FCB want him out.

If they could get 20m for him (plausible), it would solve some of this season's financial issues (and allow them to sign & register Alonso at LB), so I'm sure that they're pushing him. I bet that if De Jong leaves, the pressure on Dest will disappear. But if De Jong stays... I'm guessing they will try hard to move him out.

As somebody disgusted by the club's financial juggling and efforts to bully players into leaving or taking pay cuts, I want Dest to fight for his spot and throw a wrench into Barcelona's plans. But at the same time, Dest should have left 6-12 months ago, and it would be much better heading into the World Cup to be playing.

I think he's one of very few US players who could sit the bench for 3 months and still make the squad.

Agreed. It will be interesting to see if Pepi is one as well.

Unless his US competition collapses, I think the answer to that will be No.

I don’t think Dest is bad enough to play for Manchester United at the moment.

Well, you assume too much. I'm not sure ManU has a plot to be lost anymore. I've seen no evidence of it. Remember, most of these same players finished 2nd in '20-'21. IMHO, the problem is primarily mental. Harry Maguire does not strike me as a hard-ass in the manner of Roy Keane. I don't know about the current coach. The players have lost their collective way.

Dest needs to go someplace where he will start.

    Everything else should be secondary....

    Yeah....but he won't start.

The USMNT has played just fine with Yedlin at RB......he started both the Mexico games in qualifying.

Yedlin over a fully healthy Dest? Yikes... that would be terrible.
