Duvan was white hot for a short period of time at the club level - sucks that he won’t have a legacy with the NT

Same can be said for Muriel

Just more strikers who struggled at the NT level for Colombia

I mean, they've both had three excellent seasons at la Dea. But Zapata's fall was really promising - he was so good at Old Trafford away and so consistent in Seria A. And so close to a major pay day. This injury is tragic.

That we've failed to exploit their abilities at the NT is a total waste.

He won't make these qualifiers, but it's great to see his training videos on IG. He looks to be in great shape considering how sensitive the injury was reported to be.

His birthday today. People are spamming footage of his wasted attempt against Uruguay on Twitter...

Miraculously, he is back in the lineup for Atalanta against Napoli months ahead of schedule.

Hope Gasperini takes it easy on him and brings him along slowly.

Duvan starting against Sassuolo today. Great to see when it was anticipated he'd miss rest of the season.

Update: lame 2-1 loss to Sassuolo. Muriel got the goal in the last minute of extra time on a defensive lap.

Tough game for la Dea as Gasperini fielded the B team without Freuler, Deroon or Maelhe and gave a Seria A start to 18 year old academy product Scalvini (who was constantly out of position), and Zapata is really just finding his feet after the long layoff...

Looks like top 4 is written off, but they are now very much in danger of falling out of Europa League spots as well. Trying to manage playing in Europe with this thin a squad is proving too much for them, hopefully they can continue in the Europa League but if they miss even Europa League for next season it feels like Duvan and Muriel should probably cash in on a big contract somewhere if they can and in that case Atalanta should probably commit to a rebuild and the window for this squad has closed in the near term.

Yes, not being able to play Freuler, Deroon and Maehle yesterday was brutal. They couldn't impose Gasperini's game plan.

You hope Duvan or Muriel explodes with form for a few games here to lock in Europa because they are in trouble

First goal since return from the injury. Puts Venice up 2-0 with assist from Muriel.

This is great news, imho. Hope he finishes out there and then comes home to play a farewell season for America.

Wow this is great for Atalanta and Duvan, he could probably leave and make more but playing wise this is the ideal situation by far. I'd imagine this helps to prolong his career, comfortable in a system that he knows with a manager who values him.

Absolutely bizarre loss from Atalanta to close the season at home vs. Empoli. They had 40 (!) shots and 10 on goal...didn't manage to get one past the keeper.

Duvan had several saved and also created a few chances for others that were incredibly wasted.

IMHO - Atalanta needs to invest a bit more competitively this summer and replace Gosens and Romero properly this season. Zappacosta on the left was simply an abysmal step down from the German, and the defense came undone too many times from winning positions this year.

I'm also worried that Boga was the wrong signing - he carries the ball well and is skilled on it, but he very often plays the ball late in a system that prizes the early ball...

Zappacosta and Mojica were bizarre signing for Atalanta, they need intelligent wing backs who can come in side as well as go outside and those two are just not that. Neither can defend well and they are essentially just cross bots who don't really think and just try to swing in a ball every chance they get.

Agree they have really done well to turn over and sell a ton of good players and keep finding good talent to fit in and develop them, but they haven't done it this time and Gosens being out all year, Duvan and Ilicic and also Muriel missing for large parts of the season killed them, time to spend all that money they've made on some guys who can help them right now.

Dude, they sold Gosens... I think it's the key to their form collapsing. He was extraordinary in Gasperini's system.

Beautiful play from Duvan in the box elegant change of direction and perfect cross for hockey assist on Atalanta goal.

Atalanta has started out great with two wins and the draw against Milan to start the season.

They signed a danish u23 striker this week that has got to be their long term plan along with Cisse they sent off on loan, but Duvan continues to play almost every minute and is key to their game even though he hasn't scored yet this season...

Duvan out 2-3 weeks with a muscle strain.

Atalanta lead Seria A after four fixtures.

Are you surprised? Italians are so passionate about their feelings that they'll be as insulting as possible to the point of racism just if they don't like you, to worshiping and sucking your dick if they are fond of you

In this case, Italy sadly has an ugly side of racism in their history that is seen in modern times.
