Posting because it has EtH pre-match conference at the start.

    Lindelof out injured too apparently.

    Liverpool next...

I think ten Hag must sacrifice one of the front three from the start and shore up the middle of the defense somehow. After what happened against Brighton, ten Hag can have no illusions about this.

There are many ways to do this. For all I care, drop Maguire, start Martinez and Varane, play Garner as a center-half. Ten Hag has options. Play an extra CM like Carrick did. Play an extra CB instead. Whatever. With Liverpool next week, I think betting on a high press, given the state of our players, is going to invite disaster.

Better to start this way and revert to a more attack minded approach later in the game if we are still looking for goals. If Brentford score early, ten Hag won't get a chance to play that way later and he'll be playing the guessing game even more when it's time to play Liverpool. Better to try it now and get more of an idea of what might work.

United will play amazingly tomorrow and win comfortably, prompting quotes that the squad is great as is. Lol.

I hope I am only half joking.

I kept some guys from last week cuz I thought it'd be too much of a shock if he made too many changes

    I’m expecting

    DDG

    Dalot
    Maguire
    Martinez
    Shaw

    Bruno
    Fred
    Eriksen

    Sancho
    Ronaldo
    Rashford

I would probably only change it by playing Bruno RCM, Fred LCM, Eriksen DLP. Maybe Malacia but Shaw’s height makes sense. I’d probably even play VDB at RCM just for the guarantee that the ball will actually stick higher up, and for the underlaps (and I worry Bruno would cannibalise Sancho’s time on the ball).

With a new manager and so many issues, think we have to pick a team with one eye on Liverpool game without compromising attack too much.

I think most of the team DDG, Sancho, Bruno, Rashford, Ronaldo, Dalot picks itself because of lack of options.

Would go Malacia over Shaw as you have to give game time to new players to bed in to the league and club. Bring Shaw on later second half to prep for Liverpool.

Martinez & Varane - as you have to drop people after poor games and Mag was comical. Also the whole high-line thing and preparing for Liverpool where this combo best, so let them get used to each other.

Would go Garner / Eriksen midfield. Garner overkill this game, his passing is decent though, but priority for me is we need to prep a workable midfield for Liverpool game and he is only CM with any defensive smarts. Certainly options to switch it up with either or Fred / Donny from the bench second half to try and find other workable partnerships.

That is a a lot of changing and would basically signal everything people showed in preseason was worthless. I mean everything people did you in preseason was worthless but that's a big statement for the coach to make to chop five to six people from the starting 11.

Not that radical - is basically

    DDG
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Malacia
    Garner - Eriksen
    Sancho - Bruno - Rashford
    Ronaldo

Only difference from last starting team is Maguire, Shaw, McT and Fred.

Given Ronaldo has to come in the starting eleven now we have a #9 fit, is only 4 changes - one diff (better) CB, two different CMs (McFred needs an overhaul) and giving a new player minutes at LB.

I can see value in keeping Shaw - in that he and Martinez need to develop an understanding. Which is why I said to bring him on second half.

If we play McFred next two games, then I think I know how the Liverpool game could go :) Changing the midfield from this combination is worth the risk imo.
