Well, David is set on the right, and for the left the competition was Jonathan Bamba, Tim Weah and Rémy Cabella. Now Cabella is playing behind the striker, but the backup for David, Edon Zhegrova, is back from injury and he can also play on the left. So we have four guys competing for two starting spots.
I don't think David is set on the right. He's a lock starter, for sure, but he has almost never played on the wings throughout his career. Is Bayo good enough to permanently displace him?
Valencia have supposedly made a loan offer for Tim Weah. https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Valence-veut-timothy-weah-lille/1347784
The Spaniards have made a loan offer with an option to buy for the American striker.... With the departure of Gonçalo Guedes to Wolverhampton , Gennaro Gattuso, the Spanish club's coach, is looking for reinforcements in the attacking sector, while having to cope with a budget limited by Financial Fair Play. Weah, who played 35 matches (including 20 as a starter) in all competitions last season with Lille, is not against the idea.... But LOSC, which is not a seller [looking to sell?], will be firm in this negotiation.
Only correction I'd make is that Lille is absolutely a selling team right now... to highest bidders for any asset
Yeah, but they've brought in 95 million Euros in transfer fees already this window. That's got to be enough to keep the bankers satisfied for the time being. Of course they'll sell Tim if they get a good enough offer - and have a replacement lined up - but they won't be in any hurry to sell him now that Botman, Sanches Onana and Celik have gone. If the money isn't there, they'll walk.
I seem to remember having read that Valencia needed wide options badly but didn't want to put Musah out on the wing.
My friends have warmed up to this. As stated above it‘s clear Yunas belongs in the middle and Tim has speed. Something their attack has lacked recently.
This from Lille president Olivier Létang at his press conference this morning: Tim Weah will be immobilized with an ankle injury for three weeks (Sunday L’Equipe preview of LOSC-PSG says he’s out until Sept. int’l window) and is expected to stay at Lille. https://t.co/6B8zqmMKLo— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) August 20, 2022
He tore his right hamstring, had recurring muscle injuries to his right thigh, and a ligament problem in his right leg too. Is this the right ankle? Sometimes muscular issues can have effect on a player's ankle, weakening it.
