I honestly don’t even know how to react to this comment. I’m struggling to understand how any professional player…and particularly any professional coach…would miss something that is basically year 1 11v11 u13 type instruction.
Maybe that's not translated correctly. Can you clear that up, please ( because you have De in your profile)? Does "anlaufen" mean "press"?
There are a lot of players and coaches who are grossly incompetent. I also think the quote speaks more to the accountability at Union versus Furth. Like, they're very good at pressing because they get on you if you ******** up, whereas Furth had a more blase approach to things.
In my case DE means Delaware. I took the context of pressing in what a team does after losing possession as far as applying pressure to the opposition. But, maybe I didn’t get that right!
Well, there's a difference between knowing something and doing it, let alone doing it well. Which is why Furth are in D2 this season and Union are playing UEFA ball
Could also say entire clubs. Union Berlin is one of the teams that have embraced new age scouting too like teams like Brighton and Brentford to where they use databases to find players that meet profiles they want and then scout from there. Won't always work but they aren't one of the MANY teams that will buy someone just cause they're a name or because they fill a position of need
Heard an interesting comment by an invited contributor to Grumpy Pundits on today's show (channel SiriusXM FC 157). He was an expert on the Bundesliga and was asked if there were any young, relatively unknown players who are likely to have "breakout" seasons. The answer included 2-3 Germans, but also included PefokakaSiebatcheu, acknowledging his strong, successful preseason play and the high likelihood that he will play a lot of games.
Manuel Veth writes about the expectations for Pefok. To get more than a couple of paragraphs, you'll have to subscribe: Union Berlin Are Betting That Jordan Pefok Can Become More Than The Next Taiwo Awoniyi https://gegenpressing.substack.com/p/union-berlin-are-betting-that-jordan
I‘ve said it before. This is a perfect match. The way he plays, the way they play, and the expectation of the fans (run your a** off and work no matte what). If he shows a Union player workrate he is a WC shoe in come Nov IMO.
Starts again in his push for the WC Roster. Hoping this guy continues with his monster start of the season. The team's in. Trimmi on the bench, Rani wears the armband. Come on Union!#M05FCU | #fcunion pic.twitter.com/PcaC0QfZwL— 1. FC Union Berlin (English) (@fcunion_en) August 14, 2022
Not getting fans in Berlin today. Rather quiet game. Narrators keep calling him "Seeb-atchoo" which actually sounds like a sneeze. And he gets replaced in the 69'. Nothing to report, really.

Ended scoreless. I watched most of the first half (flipping back and forth between the West Ham-Nottingham Forrest game as well), but it was a really dull game. I don't remember Jordan getting any decent opportunities.
Pefok did have one good chance in the 1st half. He had a near post header off a corner that was potentially heading to the far corner, the problem is that had to get through about 4 bodies to get to the goal - so it was deflected wide.
