Perez was an absolute moron for prioritizing an almost 35-year-old Benzema over Erling Haaland. Easily one of the worst decisions ever as a president. It's one of those decisions people will look back on down the line.

Bar injuries, Erling Haaland will go down as arguably the GOAT-striker wheras Benzema will never be in that conversation. Haaland's outrageous numbers in UCL, internationals as well as in club level is remarkable.

Man City paying €63m for Haaland is one of the biggest steals ever.

Weird part is he used to trash Haaland because of his insecurities about him taking spotlight away from Benzema. He used to trash Haaland signing and anyone else that was a threat.

Because for people like him, it was never really about the player. The entire schtick was to be a contrarian. Back then, there were far more posters being critical of Benzema (myself included) so there were enough people to argue with or try to get a reaction out of them. Now, the entire forum is pretty much united on their views on the player so who is he going to argue with/troll. So you get this ridiculous about face where the loudest fanboy becomes the biggest hater right when the player has achieved the absolute peak perfection of his career. Pointless.

 

Benzema is literally the third top scorer in the history of the Champions League, second top scorer in the history of Real Madrid and about to pick up his first Balon D'Or. Yet, he'll never be in the GOAT striker conversation.

Aside the fact Benzema was viewed as a meme player until recently, his career averages isn't amazing.

Benzema has also played 142 games in UCL history. Robert Lewandowski is also 3rd top scorer in UCL-history, although he has 106 apperances with a superior goal-per-game ratio.

Benzema has played 605 games for Real Madrid, which puts him in 6th place for most apperances in club's history. Benzema's goal-per-game ratio is currently 0.53, the 6th highest in Real Madrid history. To put things into perspective, Ferenc Puskas has 0.92 goal-per-game ratio (242 goals in 262 games). Even someone like Hugo Sanchez has 0.74 goal-per-per-game ratio (208 goals in 282 games).

Many players whom are considered way better than Benzema never won Ballon d'Or (Luis Suarez, Robert Lewandowski, Thierry Henry, Zlatan, Xavi, Iniesta, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas etc). I wouldn't put too much stock into it like you guys does lmfao.

Benzema is almost 35-years-old & has 1-2 prime years left. He's reached his peak & won't get any better.

A 22-year-old Erling Haaland is a goalscoring phenom with almost 1 goal per game in UCL, internationals etc. despite not being close to his prime.

Picking Haaland over an almost 35-year-old Benzema is always the rational choice
