In other Barca news turns out all the sales the right sales they did to generate money? Accounting tricks that La Liga has said don't count so they cannot register any of their signings.

So long story short... Dest and De Jong are two young players they can maybe recoup losses from and are trying to force them out

Dest remains in the driver’s seat, whatever he ultimately decides, and almost certainly his salary is very nice but within reason.

If the numbers we’ve seen published regarding de Jong’s coming salary increase can be believed, there’s trouble ahead. I can’t imagine a solution, creative financing or not.

    Exciting times!

Wow. Just wow. Selling Dest and De Jong sounds like a must to them but since every football team knows where they are coming from they look to be in a bad spot WRT negotiation leverage.

How much could they even make on Dest? De Jong looks like the player they absolutely have to move. But I am not sure how much they could recoup for Dest.?.? I really wish Dest would take a move to BVB. I think he would be a perfect RB for that team... and I am not particularly fond of any of their current RBs.

Man, it's really GTFO time at Barca. They just keep doing things in improper ways and digging themselves deeper and deeper into debt. One of the truly sad stories in world sport at the moment.

As for Dest, I can see why he'd stay and why he'd want to stay but that club is basically the Titanic right now

I am not so sure about that. Only time will tell. Would anyone really be surprised if they somehow got away with all of this shady stuff? They are beloved across the planet. If they were to get away with it and only need to lose de Jong and Dest then I think they have the talent now to compete for a La Liga title. They looked stacked on O. They would be thin at RB if Dest left but I think they would make do.

The issue is La Liga has their own rules with revenue and spending.

I think you are probably right. De Jong is the big fish and Dest is merely small fry, in comparison. De Jong's departure may be a fiscal requirement. Dest's, not so much. and that may be enough to protect him. At least until Barca declares complete bankruptcy and folds.

That would be nuts. I would think there would be plenty of billionaire owners and ownership groups that would love to own Barca. I would think if it got down to bankruptcy that the current ownership group would take at least some offers rather than lose everything?.? But I am obviously not a financial adviser... especially when it comes to La Liga/Spain. This could be a strange year... Barca has gathered so much talent... illegally, legally and thru youth development that I think they have a real shot at winning La Liga. Heck... they might even be good enough to push for a CL title.

The ownership group is thousands of fans. I don’t think they can sell, at least not easily.

I hope Barca fold in two years, Their management of this fiscal situation is a disgrace. (It will never happen).

A Barcelona collapse, while enjoyable…could possibly have repercussions beyond Barca. Many of their recent transfers in have relied on delayed payments. The still have significant transfer fee liabilities. A default could negatively effect any clubs that are relying on these delayed fees to fund their own operations

Time to sell the club. The Russians are out of the market- the era of American billionaires is on the rise in Europe. A smart one would run that club well. Not sure I see how else to solve it. The club’s going concern is outrageous- there’s no reason it should be in such trouble.

I don't think the current management is even empowered to sell under the member run model that Barcelona currently operates under. More realistic is that Goldman Sachs or whoever would foreclose on Barcelona and put them up for sale on the open market.
And yet neither Dest or De Jong want to leave Barcelona. And players like Raphina and
Kounde prefer going to Barcelona over offers from Chelsea. It's still one of the top clubs in the world players want to play for.

Part of it I think is that Barcelona is a wonderful place to live and one of the most historic and prestigious clubs in the world. And while I could see them winning both La Liga and the Champions League this year, I do not think their long term prognosis is good the way they've mortgaged their future.

All very good points and hopefully the checks clear. It's a sad state -- I don't even think Madrid fans would wish for the demise of Barca. The world is a better place with Barca and their ethos. Sadly the board and club hierarchy seem committed to its destruction and have been left unfettered for too long and the chickens are coming home to roost. Maybe Messi will bail them out one day with his billions of dollars.

Indeed some of the deals that they've made this summer have been secured via companies with close ties to Florentino Perez as Madrid needs Barcelona to not fall apart.

if we really want to see Barca go down in flames - perhaps we can pray that Dan Snyder buys them. That is a guaranteed path to failure.

Barcelona's first match is tomorrow. Will this transaction - which is basically an accounting move - be enough for La Liga to let them register Lewandowski, Kounde, Raphinha, Kessie, and Christensen?

Allegedly the move and Pique taking another payout allows them to register 7 new players

Ah yes, accelerating the club's NFT and Web3 pursuits, two things that have quickly come and gone owing to their complete lack of utility and transparently being pyramid schemes

Barca right now reminds me of this image:

Do they have to register players with La Liga to have them be available for the Champions League?
