I was wondering when we were going to start seeing some stats: Brenden Aaronson has attempted more pressures (31) than any other Premier League player so far this season. Only two players have made more successful pressures than Aaronson (12), as well. Duracell. #lufc pic.twitter.com/LZBkQcuIIP— Joe Donnohue (@JoeDonnohue) August 7, 2022
needed those fantasy points Instead, Brenden got a big fat donut for yesterday's game according to my league's scoring, despite playing a really decent game.
A big-money signing that takes a while to score his first goal can be an easy target for tabloids and fans. Having this goal will keep them off his back for a while and give him more confidence. That’s why it could matter.
The ratings sites show him as one of the worst players on the pitch. Not totally understanding why based on what I saw.
It reminds me of the early years of MLS when you got to hear about so and so becoming the leading something in MLS history….every single match.
Sometimes I think defenders don't touch a ball like that because they don't want public perception of a blunder, ie. own goal. Of course, in those instances, the attacker just taps it in and that's that. What makes that an own goal is that the ball was not headed towards goal when the defender touched it. A way of rewarding the attacker in Brenden's case might be to award an assist but I don't think the English way of thinking is liberal enough for that. In the USA, everybody gets a trophy.
loving this content from LUFC... 👀 @AMTAutoUK's Spotlight returns! This week, it shines a light on Brenden's debut against Wolves! pic.twitter.com/FNTYCmEXau— Leeds United (@LUFC) August 8, 2022
If i had any critique of his game this weekend (half joking of course) was him not playing in Tyler and taking the shot outside the box instead. our man Adams was moving great, played square to aaronson and was totally in on goal if he played it to him. Would have been amazing to see that one play out.
Interesting how two of the most electric American players, Pulisic and Aaronson, are also two of the most boring. Aaronson has the personality of a guppy in interviews but he's Salvador Dali on the pitch.

It looked to me that it hit the defender's foot first, then hit Brenden's shin and foot, then went into the goal. Admittedly, even in slow motion, it is hard to be sure about this.
Sorry, I meant to say it was headed towards goal after the defender's foot hit it, and then Aaronson's right foot/shin hit it.
That replay shows it pretty clearly: the ball hit the defender’s foot and goes towards goal. No change in spin or direction after the ball hits the black boot. And the ball is nowhere close to Brendan’s shin at any point.
