That’s definitely not something he’ll get better at in Ligue 1 unfortunately. Having said that—I don’t think we can draw too many conclusions this early, but at least Saliba doesn’t look totally lost when pressed.
there was a part of me that wondered about us ringing up potter and seeing if they wanted him no loan for the year to replace cucurella. but i'm pretty happy with him getting a full year in marseille.
Playing from wingback lets him have more time to think... but he's a defensive liability. Definitely one of those situations, where you are hoping his brain, catches up to his athleticism.
I think Tavares’ errors are attributable to a lapses in concentration rather than any technical deficiency. Offensively when compared to Tierney, Tomiyasu, and Zinchenko, only Zinchenko completes a higher percentage of his passes, yet Tavares’ biggest errors have been loose passes in the defensive third. Defensively, one v one his technique is pretty good, last season Zinchenko and Tomiyasu were dribbled past nearly twice as often per 90 as Tavares was, but a lack of concentration defensively gets him caught up field too many times. Concentration improves with experience. Prior to last season, Tavares had a total of about 1700 minutes of first team experience over two seasons. He needs to play. Hopefully he will get that experience at Marseille and the lapses in concentration will become less frequent. Incidentally, in addition to scoring he had four key passes today.
Tavares gives me young Renato Sanchez vibes in terms of energy but he’s probably not gonna play as a runner in midfield his profile fit that for me but his decision making is t great a wide attacking role suits him. Hopefully he does well in France

Surely it would have been better for Utd to have paid some or even all of the 17m wages of de Jong to have got him back in June? Now they will waste that much money on second choice players
