Sadio mane - high pressing attacker. Obviously better than Aaronson at this point, but that’s who I think of.
That’s a solid comparison, though Mane’s speed allowed him to thrive on the wing more than Aaronson likely will.
He’s a pretty unique player and probably shouldn’t be compared to anyone at this point. Especially not a guy like Havertz, who may or may not put much effort into a match.
📋 Following a review by the #LUFC Goal Accreditation Panel, we're still saying this is Brenden's! pic.twitter.com/qUwPbg8slp— Leeds United (@LUFC) August 6, 2022
That looks pretty clearly to me like Brendan's goal in the angle shown in that clip between 0:28 and 0:35.
The issue with this goal not being credited to Brendan is that if the defender doesn’t make contact, it most certainly gets tapped in by Brendan. It’s not one of those situations where the defender back passes it into his own goal. There is a fair amount of grey area regarding own goals but this is a scenario where there was no other option for the defender
10-4 Boss. Aside: I had just finished uttering strange oaths after foozling my approach shot when a playing partner told me what I'm sure is an old joke ( but one I'd never heard before): You know why it's called golf, right? Because "********!" was already taken. I miss being able to play soccer.
We award goals to guys who hop, skip, and jump from the penalty spot, despite them having nothing to do with the foul that led to the penalty. Which reminds me, I believe the guy that gets fouled should be the guy that has to take the penalty.
Awesome he got the credit! Nice cherry on top to his debut sundae. That tweet mysteriously still doesn’t show that angle from minute mark 77:00 of the broadcast, which was way clearer than the other angles (IMHO). But hey, it’s a moot point now (hopefully)! edit: Just realized he only gets the goal on club records? Official premier league site has it as an own goal. How does that work….club stats different than league stats for goals scored? Was that tweet only being cheeky ?
That's pretty much the answer. There is really such a thing as the Dubious Goals Committee which adjudicates any disputes such as this. We can assume this will be placed on their docket by the club soon.
Leeds will credit it to Brenden for a few days, maybe even a couple of weeks, but in long term they'll go with what the EPL decides because the league stats are the official figures and a club's data are their disagreements. And I wouldn't be surprised if there's some protocol somewhere that requires clubs to use the league's data.
The timing and angle of his foot movement tracks the path of the ball. He snaps his ankle upwards at just the same time as the ball starts to rise. I think he scored it.
We've always counted almost-assists, could-have-been-goals, nearly-dangerous passes, and "he drew defenders away so others could score." Why should we change?
If you haven’t watched the super slomo at minute 77, you shouldn’t be opining on what you think is a goal. Explain to me where he touches the ball in that sequence. If you watch that slomo you’ll see that awarding an own goal makes perfect sense barring some other angle that shows clear contact. His foot trails the play. I have BA in my fantasy team so I’d love it if it were his - but I just don’t see it.
This situation has been a life lesson: Choose your sources of information wisely. In this trivial case, without taking into account that goal line slow-mo angle at minute 77:00 you are in the dark.
If you look at frames 103-114 carefully, you will see the ball moves back and to the left. Back … and to the left.
