First lever - Sold 10% of TV revenue for next 25 years for €200m Second lever - Sold 15% of TV revenue for next 25 years for €300m Third lever - Sold 49.9% of their merchandising company for €200m (these numbers are all estimates) A fourth lever would probably be selling even more of their future TV revenue.
I watch on the NBC Sports site when possible. Great interface. But there's no detectable rhyme or reason for when games will be available there.
This is likely the strategy. That being said, unlike other streaming services, Peacock is only $4.99 a month. That's a fancy coffee at Starbucks. I'm not crazy about the interface, but after watching the boring first half of the Newcastle game today, I switched to Spuds and clicked on the "catch up via key plays" option. It was a pretty slick feature and a better "recap" of the half than watching Tim Howard talk me thru what happened in 30 seconds. What's been less than ideal about Peacock in recent years is that I can't just tune in to a game 20-30mins late and start watching from the beginning. Catching up via key plays is fine for a game I don't care about as much, but I'd much rather watch our games in their entirety, and not have to worry about getting home from whatever I'm doing in time to do so. That's the beauty of games being on network tv, where DVR can do what DVRs were invented to do. I see our game vs. Leicester is already slated to be on Peacock. I'm going to add the event to "my stuff" in the Peacock interface and see whether that affords me the ability to start watching when I please. I doubt it, but if we're gonna be on Peacock all season, I'd rather find out sooner than later.
i did peacock last season (then cancelled once season ended) and will likely restart. i agree with the comment about the lack of rhyme or reason for why and when a game will be live vs replay. if the game is slated for their lineup then you can watch the game live on peacock. if not (as our palace game was not) then you get a "replay at 6AM tomorrow" thing so about a 1 day delay.
not sure why they call it 'lever' - linguistic/translation quirks? - but i believe the first was selling 10% of their TV rights before getting shareholder permissions to bump it to 25% for the second and doing that. then selling 25% of the merchandising arm was considered the third. the fourth is apparently going to be selling an addition 24% of that merchandising arm.
laf, per the athletic article daprince linked: so i guess it's not just the new guys but also the guys re-upping. glorious.
Brighton up 2-0 at half time, I’ve always had a soft spot for Welbeck. He hasn’t scored, but he provided the assist on the first goal and is playing well. Lisandro Martinez has yet to impress.
Remember when utd arrogantly briefed they did not need to overpay for de Jong And now they are starting the season with the chuckle brothers in midfield?
Feel good story, Ramsey comes on in the 76th minute today and scores in the 77th minute to secure a 1-1 draw for Nice. May he stay healthy and have a good year in Nice.
on top of that, the first goal, i think, went against a left-side of fernandes-shaw. if ten hag is sticking with that on the wing, it's going to be a long season for them.
BREAKING: Manchester United have had a bid of around 9 million euros for Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic rejected
i feel bad for dude. but then i also remember this was the same asshole who stomped on tomiyasu's face last year.
