The top 5s are affected like this @IceBlood34:
    - Deyna goes into a clear 3rd place ahead of Muller in 1974
    - Rivelino has 5th place to himself, ahead of Passarella, in 1976
    - Simonsen moves ahead of Cruyff into 2nd place, in 1977
    - Maradona now level with Keegan again (but would be ahead if only 5 points were awarded for 1st places) in the 1979 vote

This one too for 1980, with AD78's vote factored in (Platini now a clear 5th, and Ceulemans 6th, but the presentation/analysis of top 5s by IceBlood has only reached 1979 so far anyway, and will continue when I have presented the rest of the 1980s latest standings I guess, including AD78's votes and potentially Lasha's too).

    XI IDEAL

I know Best played mostly on the left but he also played successfully on the right. Since Keizer, in my opinion, deserves a place in this top XI, that is the only, minimal, variation to the position each player occupied that season.

Banks; Vogts, Beckenbauer, McLintock, Cooper; Pastoriza, Netzer, Mazzola; Best, Cruyff, Keizer.

Four votes have no 4th or 5th places awarded, and another has no 5th place awarded. One vote has two players allocated 5 points each for joint 1st place, and three players allocated a point each, sharing the points available for 4th/5th.

Zico, in Golden Ball position, has twelve outright 1st place votes, and a shared 1st place too. Rummenigge in Silver Ball position has two 1st place votes, and Maradona in Bronze Ball position has one plus a share of another.

Four votes have no 4th or 5th places awarded.

Zico is again in Golden Ball position, with twelve 1st place votes. Despite Falcao being in Silver Ball position (receiving a 2nd place vote eight times, so from half of the voters), the other 1st place votes are shared, two each, between Bronze Ball positioned Rossi, and Rummenigge the 4th placed player in the standings as things are now.

I don't think I'd added any analysis on this one so I'll do that now too:
Five votes contained no 4th or 5th placings (one of them had two players tied in 2nd/3rd), and another had no 5th placing.

Maradona, in Golden Ball position, has nine of the 1st place votes. Rummenigge in Silver Ball position has six of them, and Zico in Bronze Ball position has the other one.

    - Keegan (1 + 1 shared) but be careful about voting systems.
    - Maradona (1 + 1 shared) but be careful about voting systems.

If we extend to the number of times listed in the top 5 (and among top 3), we find the above players in more numbers of times mentioned:

    - Pelé (12 times* with 10 times among top 3)
    - Di Stefano (10 times* with 5 times among top 3)
    - Beckenbauer (7 times with 6 times among top 3)
    - Cruyff (7 times with 5 times among top 3)
    - Puskas (7 times* with 5 times among top 3)
    - Kopa (6 times with 6 times among top 3)
    - Zico *so far* (6 times with 4 times among top 3)

To go back a bit to the topic I had briefly mentioned, here's the list of FIFA's best female players / Ballon d'Or Feminin:

    2005: Prinz (3), Marta, Boxx,
    2006: Marta, Lilly, Lingor

At this point, at the number of successes per player we have:
    - Marta (5 or 6)
    - Prinz (3)
    - Hamm (2)
    - Lloyd (2)

For the number of times mentioned in the podium we have:

    - Wambach (4 times within top 3)
    - Hamm (4 times within top 3)

Does anyone know enough about women's soccer to have an opinion on it?
Does anyone know of women players before the 2000's, who could have won the best player of the year title several times ?

    Best,
    IceBlood34.

    3 Paulo Roberto Falcao (Brazil/Roma) - 51
    4 Socrates (Brazil/Corinthians) - 21
    5 Kenny Dalglish (Scotland/Liverpool) - 20

Four votes had no 4th or 5th places allocated, and another vote had no 4th place allocated. One vote has three players sharing a point each from the points available for 4th/5th.

I don't know a lot really, but probably Hamm could win some more in the previous century I'm thinking. I read some suggestions Harder might have been hard done by (no pun intended) in recent votes I think (maybe that she'd have won the Ballon d'Or vote in 2020 a la Lewandowski on the men's side too), but I'm not sure how widespread those opinions would be.

And another question that bothered me too, I am addressing myself especially to specialists of ancient times (@peterhrt @elegos7 @Ariaga II @Tom Stevens ) but do you know well-known players who could have been the best of their time, before the first years of "modern soccer" (I mean before the 1869-1870 season) ?
I know that for example soccer had started to exist among the Greeks and then among the Romans, and before knowing it as we know it today.
I do not know if there were players in the 1840s, 1850s or 1860, who could have claimed these titles, by example.

Anyway, I thank you in advance.
    Best,

    5 Preben Elkjaer (Denmark/Lokeren/Verona) - 12

Four votes have no 4th or 5th places awarded, and another vote has no 5th place awarded. One vote has three players sharing 2 points each for 3rd-5th.

Platini, with a big lead in Golden Ball position, has the maximum 96 points from the available votes, with all sixteen 1st places. Tigana is in Silver Ball position and has four of the 2nd place votes, the same as Zico, while Rush in Bronze Ball position has five of those.
