Luis Díaz saved Porter’s job with his hat trick of assists tonight. I’ve never been so proud yet so disappointed at the same time.
We could easily be in 3rd place but i think we are getting better and showed a lot of grit we showed poise and persevered despite giving up some deflected goals.
I actually picked win by one maybe i deserve a double up we seem to beat NYC at home but always we give up a goal and just outscore them. That stat about how most of their goals are at home is mind boggling.
Like Walks in old Riverfront Stadium, Wednesdays game will come to haunt us. (as will San Jose game) but for tonight, good for us. Great grit and determination. Now, if we can just get a LB, and a third person to score goals.
Wow. The Crew improve to 2-0 this season in games in which I'm in attendance. (FYI: Donations are being accepted to the Get KCbus to the Games fund. I accept both cash and tickets.) Diaz had one hell of a game tonight. Doubly impressive considering he played all but the first twenty seconds injured. I don't know how much they showed on TV, but when he got fouled on that first play of the game, he didn't get up quickly at all, and he was noticeably limping for minutes. For the entire match, he was constantly finding moments to bend down and stretch out. An absolutely deserving MOTM honor. Zelarayan and Cucho were both monsters tonight. They both looked hungry and confident. And once again, a game-winner against NYC off of a Lucas Zelarayan free kick. (That's my story, I'm sticking to it. ) Also, shout-out to Cucho for the defensive work he was doing tonight. Defensively, we were the embodiment of the term "mixed bag." They were constantly getting themselves into bad positions, but for the most part, recovering and making the plays in the end. Both goals were crappy deflections. (Side note: In keeping with the whole Calvinball aspect of the league, MLS passed a rule a couple weeks ago saying that 50% of all goals scored in the league must be on deflections. That's true. Look it up. It's in the book. How else can you explain the goals being scored league-wide lately?) And yet, we actually could have given up two or three more. That semi-breakaway when Eloy came out to the edge of the 18 and saved our ass was maddening. How do you let them go route 1, straight down the center of the field just after scoring? Wake the hell up, already. Pedro in particular was brutal tonight. It looked like Mensah was going to have a nightmare after the deflected goal against and the yellow card in the first five minutes, but he recovered nicely. Room had one of his best games of the season.
