plus he's young enough to maybe be moldable into playing as arteta wants so that'd be ideal. heck, get both thurams.
Thiago is world class we still need someone in the middle. Partey wasn’t great today I think his head will obviously be gone after the allegations
In the post match interview today, Arteta said we aren't done this window. Didn't indicate who, which position(s), etc... but said that we had plans to bring someone in. Based on our current roster and how we have played (preseason & CP) I would put a huge emphasis on... 1. Another scorer off the bench. Likely a RW but really could be any forward that can rotate around the forward positions like our current guys are. 2. A young(ish) DM to backup/push Partey. Between injuries, form issues and the allegations hanging over his head we need a plan.
Abuse is why the 19 year old woman in the Kobe Bryant case refused to testify in a criminal trial. The level of tribalism can be stunning.
Stan Kroenke has given the green light for Arsenal to pursue Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby before the end of the transfer window to 'complete' their attack, according to reports. 🤔 #afc— afcstuff (@afcstuff) August 6, 2022
60m seems like more than Arsenal would want to spend (article says they want to pay less). A lot of talk about Goncalo Guedes being held out of Valencia's lineup because a move to the Premier League is imminent. Wolves, West Ham and Arsenal said to be possibilities.
Think Guedes is headed to Wolves. He fits the versatile mold but is 25 and hasnt been very productive. Diaby is very interesting. Not sure I like the idea of 60m but think he fits the mold of a quick forward that can play all across the field (though he is better on the wing). My biggest concern with him is that his passing numbers arent great and his defensive contribution at Leverkusen is non-existent. Have a feeling we are fixing to sign a quality W and then see a 3 man main rotation of Saka, Martinelli & the new guy with ESR (when healthy) splitting time between W and CM/AM.
Diaby doesn’t appear to be a good fit for Arteta’s pressing system, i.e., per FBref he’s in the 12th percentile for pressures. This could be a function of the way Leverkusen play, as he was better at PSG, but his numbers at PSG were a small sample size. I’ll believe it when it is no longer a. rumor.
Honestly, if I read that Kroenke wants to open his wallet, I'm immediately done worrying about the ramifications. The man is the wealthiest low profile American on Earth. If he's spending, I'm smiling.
Not gonna argue there. I just can't help think about value and cost vs expectation. It's not my money but I still don't wanna be looking back and say "why TF did we spend that much on him" for any player we buy.
it's the opportunity cost for me. you spend 60M or, say, 72M on someone who is a poor fit . . . it means you cannot spend, say, 40M on somebody else who might actually be useful. then there's the fact that being a poor fit means the player is not going to play which means value just plummets and we aren't getting anything back via resale.
Agree but I wonder if Leverkusen was asking him to press? He and Schick have pretty low per90 pressures. His per90 numbers were almost double when he was in France and then fell off at Leverkusen. Comparing their forwards and attacking MF and Wirtz is the only one that has high per90 pressures. His per90 last season was higher than any one of our attackers. However ALL of our attackers have better per90 pressures than the rest of Leverkusen's attackers.
Not only are his pressure numbers low, his success rate as defined by FBref is the fourth worst of any field player at Leverkusen. I don’t see the specificity in Diaby.. I don’t see him as an Arteta player.
Sounds like he is going to PSG. I didn't think they needed more help in midfield, they already added Sanches and Vitinha to Verratti. You are correct.
I expect CFC will be very active until the window closes. After their poor display against us in preseason, and then the weak opener against Everton yesterday. Leipzig are set to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea, here we go! Been told it will be a permanent deal and NOT loan. Werner will leave Chelsea. 🚨⚪️🔴 #CFCFirst call @Plettigoal today, now final details being discussed - it’s done, personal terms are agreed since 1 month. pic.twitter.com/RCnqNZAUFZ— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 7, 2022
Arsenal are now net negative 250m euros since last summer in the transfer market does no one worry about this huge unsupported spending given poor revenues since '18? I do wonder how all this new debt will be structured, especially since the stadium is now now longer owned by the club
They’ve also completely revamped the wage bill in that time. Huge amounts of salary have come off the books the last few years. Look, they obviously were convinced that after fvcking up the team building for several years that they could just slash everything and accept mediocrity (and maybe flirt with relegation), or they could commit to a legitimate teardown and rebuild that was going to be expensive but may ultimately lead to a more stable and competitive team that will swell the value of the asset even if the business never makes money on a cash flow basis. I really don’t expect them to continue spending like this indefinitely. Why do you keep banging on about this?
Bellerin pictured at the airport today using his Betis luggage as his carry-on. Lots of speculation that he is on his way to Spain to finalize a move.
It’s annoying we get no fee, but selfish as he’s apparently refused other teams but at least that’s 5 mill off the wages pepe, torreira, Leno, Mari, bellerin out would be a great window for wage release but not much fee sadly that would allow another signing hopefully. I’m not as worried about the wings as I am midfield (vieira played more wide at Porto anyway)
