Confirmed now. Sheffield United will be a good side to follow this season with James McAtee, Tommy Doyle, Daniel Jebbison and Rhian Brewster (although I’ve given up on him) in the squad.
If Wolves do end up selling Coady and Gibbs - White (Other clubs have put in offers for both.) they will be extremely low on English players. Kilman and Gibbs - White the only two expected to start this weekend.
I posted this in the England u19 thread by accident A list of England youngsters 20 and under to track the progress of this season 1st tier Carney Chukuwemeka (18) - Chelsea - Premier League Levi Colwill (19) - Brighton & Hove Albion - Premier League Harvey Elliot (19) - Liverpool - Premier League Josh Wilson-Esbrand (19) - Manchester City - Premier League Cole Palmer (20) - Manchester City - Premier League Alex Migten (20) - Nottingham Forest - Premier League Joe Gelhardt (20) - Leeds United - Premier League Sam Greenwood (20) Leeds United - Premier League Tino Livramento (19) - Southampton - Premier League Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (18) - Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Jude Bellingham (19) - Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Jarrad Branthwaite (20) - PSV - Eredivisie Charlie Setford (18) - Ajax - Eredivisie Noni Madueke (20) - PSV - Erediviisie 2nd tier Alex Scott (18) - Bristol City - Championship Daniel Jebbison (19) - Sheffield United - Championship James McAtee (19) - Sheffield United - Championship Tommy Doyle (20) - Sheffield United - Championship Callum Doyle (18) - Coventry City - Championship Aaron Ramsey (19) - Norwich City - Championship CJ Egen-Riley (19) - Burnley - Championship Taylor Harwood-Bellis (20) - Burnley - Championship Charlie Patino (18) - Blackpool - Championship Dennis Cirkin (20) - Sunderland - Championship Tino Anjorin (19) - Huddersfield Town - Championship Jadan Philogene-Bidace (20) - Cardiff City - Championship Charlie Creswell (19) - Millwall - Championship 3rd Tier Dane Scarlett (18) - Portsmouth - League One Daniel Oyegoke (19) - MK Dons - League One Louie Barry (19) - MK Dons - League One Henry Lawrence (19) - MK Dons - League One James Trafford (19) - Bolton Wanderers - League One No doubt I've missed some, let me know and I'll update. The teams to keep a close eye on would be Sheffield United and MK Dons. First positive report is from last week is Charlie Creswell for Millwall, scored both the goals in their 2-0 win over Stoke (he's a centre back!) and got man of the match.
They've been the same for a good few years now. I didn't expect them to be any different this season. At least we have forest and Bournemouth with large English contingent who have also just been promoted.
Yep and what’s worse, there’s only one on the bench! At least Liverpool have a good healthy contingent from the bench that could come on with the five subs rule.
Would normally be slightly more but Chalobah and Bryan are injured. There also have three duals involved today (One playing and two on the bench.)
I suspect it will be a very low season in general. But five subs might mean English minutes don’t drop by quite as much. Unlike the start of last season we don’t have a draining tournament causing some players to not get a starting position due to fatigue so it’s pure lack of English talent at many clubs.
Sunderland have made a good start to their campaign. Cirkin started for them again, he appears to be playing as a left sided centre back in a back 5, at least according to whoscored. Could be interesting as England only have Mings and Colwill that are naturally left sided centre backs. Ellis Simms also scored 2 for them on his debut. He looks like a right clogger of a player though. It will be interesting to see what he can do at this level. Thyrys Dolan is a player I missed from the list. He came on for Blackburn today and got an assist.
Not yet. Could still move I suppose before the window closes. It’s possible future weeks could be even lower in terms of English starters. Forest and Bournemouth are both after more players from abroad who for the cost and experiences would likely get many starts.
Lewis Bate's at Oxford in League One. Apparently there was Championship interest but he wanted to play for Karl Robinson. Hard to say if that's a good or bad decision without knowing which other teams were in for him.
I think on the face of it, it's a pretty good move. I think the level and team style suits him and he should be able to play regular minutes hopefully. Just had a look at their squad and seen he'll be linking up with former youth internationals Marcus McGuane and Cameron Brannagan.
I wonder how matches this season Wolves will have no English players starting. With only Kilman and Gibbs - White there are bound to be a few.
English eligible players starting in the Premier League, total per matchday: Season 2022/2023 Matchday 1 - 75/220 = 34.1%
Not as bad as I originally thought to be honest. If you had asked me yesterday then I would have thought around 30%.
Think I agree. My first reaction was mild disappointment that he's dropping down so far when I rate him quite highly, but I think any loan right now is mostly about letting him play his game so that he can figure out how to deal with much more physical players. If he doesn't find a way, he'll get bullied out of the Premier League before long.
I'm just thinking this can't have been the vision he was sold at Leeds, because if he extended with Chelsea, he could have got this move a year ago. I guess it would have been something along the lines of Bielsa trains with a big group of the first-team and U23s and if you impress, you'll get your chance.
Cheers. I think I'll update the list after the window closes as there hopfully will be a few like Delap getting loans. Cameron Archer was one I missed too. He came off the bench for Villa at the weekend so may be getting some PL experience this season. Also Tim Ireogbunam will hopefully be playing regular football somewhere.
I expected Delap’s season to have been resolved by now. It’s been weeks since the press reported various teams wanted him on loan. For some reason it still hasn’t been resolved.
