Not surprised, he's looked terrible every minute he's played for us so far. Complete waste of an international spot, and on top of that he's signed thru next season. Not saying Kempin was that much better but I never felt as scared/nervous watching him play as much as I do with Romo. Have no idea what the FO saw in him.
Still the defense is totally unorganized and Hamid did a lot of the organizing, a role I don't necessarily expect Romo to step into. But Birnbaum is the captain. Isn't he supposed to be exercising some leadership?
Looks like we'll have to go with the ole' 2-3-5 formation given our lack of defenders and plethora of forwards.
Apparently the 2-3-5 was the standard English formation until the 1920's. Previously, they had played a 1-1-8.
Ha! I played in that formation when I was a kid. Formations go in and out of style all the time. Oh, and every pickup game in history eventually ends up in the venerable 1-1-8.
70 minutes to go and Goff has been laying the groundwork for news that there will be no new signings and how that's actually a good, smart thing: "Given trajectory of season, it's quite possible, if deals don't make sense, DCU won't force them and instead save resources for winter." We would obviously be signing players with an eye toward 2023. How does being terrible now mean we shouldn't be bringing in good new players so they can get acclimated for the start of next season?
He means the only deals we were working on were terrible, which I believe, and pushing forward with crap deals is a bad idea. Frankly, I am finding it increasingly hard to believe that we can't find competent journeymen from somewhere on the entire ********ing globe to fill out our many positions of need. I can't fathom giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Goff tweeting that DCU had ongoing talks up to deadline. DCU and other MLS clubs will announce today what transfers, if any, occurred right at the deadline.
With the season essentially over I understand them not wanting to spend money now. And if the reports that they were chasing yet more forwards are true then they wouldn't have been filling the team's most-glaring needs anyway.
What I can't believe is that after losing Hines-Ike, we didn't pull the trigger on some CB deal we must have had in the works. I mean, we did have one in the works, right?
Next man up. Might as well try out one of the Loudoun United kids. The season is basically over anyway as far as making the playoffs go.
How is it possible that we didn't sign a single defender in the transfer window? wtf? I really think our defense is one of the worst ever in MLS history, at least relative to the overall quality of the league. We desperately need at least a new cb and lb. Wouldn't hurt to bring in a second new cb either, none of the current guys are really starter quality at that position.
