Best player in the pool right now for me. Watching him play was like watching a Ferrari drive around a race track with a bunch of dodge stratuses. He was so much more adept than everyone else at everything. He’s a starter now, and yes, that comes at someone else’s expense. Maybe Wes? (Can’t believe I’m saying that but Aaronson is a must start now) .
Not sure Aaronson is a must start mostly because I am not sure, if all are healthy, who I would sit. But man how nice is to have a a guy playing at this level that might be on our bench!!!
I think Aaronson is incredible, but I worry about him getting beat up in the Premiership. I'm crossing my fingers that he doesn't get injured before the World Cup.
Something about him just seems strong and tough to me. You might be right about injuries, but I don’t think his play will be negatively affected.
He has gained some muscle since last year's CL's games where he was pushed around late in the games. I think he is going to be alright.
Cagliari was relegated from Serie A last season for their poor defending and awful attack. Leeds should be very disappointed with the 2 goals. The left back Pascal Struijk was awful. He's can't play that position in the league games. He's totally out of his depth. If they don't fix that, they'll be back in the relegation zone. Great play by Aaronson. I loved the through ball to Bamford. Now he needs to get on the scoresheet.
The game exposed a weakness in the back line, but seemed to offer cause for optimism eveywhere in front of the back line, including at DM.
Random update: after watching someone refer to his brother Paxten as “Aaronson” in another thread and getting somewhat confused recently, I’ve decided to refer to Brenden as Baaronson and his brother as Paaronson should the need arrive at some point (ie both playing in Europe or on the USMNT).
I know hope is always greatest before you play your first game but I am really bullish on Aaronson. I think people are sleeping on him big time. England will be a massive test but he really has done everything possible to stack every possible advantage in his favor. If he was a stock I'd be in buy mode for sure. I think he will play well enough where he will be a lock for the NT starting XI. I don't know about actual stats, it will be harder to get numbers for a bottom half team, but I think he will be a net positive on the field from their very first game.
He's got a white-hot competitive flame, doesn't he? It's going to be hard for an opponent to bottle up all our attacking talent.
Love Aaronson but for him to start he has to beat out Pulisic, Weah, or McKennie, or Musah. And that doesn’t assume Reyna is kicking ass in Germany.
Right now sure. But if Aaronson is playing every week and playing well, that has to shoot him higher up that list, right? It wouldn't be Austria anymore.
In the interview with Berhalter I saw yesterday (new podcast called, I believe, Disallocation Order by Paul Tenorio) he said (and I'm paraphrasing here) that if Aaronson is playing well in the EPL that can't be overlooked. At least, that was my contextual understanding.
Of course everyone else could also be playing well. That would be a great problem to have. Teams we play wouldn't know automatically what players we will start, what formation or tactic. We would be able to rotate game to game and lose nothing like the U20's did and being fresh makes them better.
We need a Vinny Johnson, the Microwave. The guy who comes off the bench hot and fires up the offense.Sounds like a job for Pulisic.Start Aaronson.
I don't see why Aaronson can't do that.............................. He has the platform to do so. Its up to him. What does he have to do? Outperform Pulisic in the Premier League and the case makes itself. I mean, does it look like Pulisic is going to start that much at Chelsea? Dortmund sure seems like they're STILL taking it slow with Reyna. I don't think I'd bet on it, but the path is there for Aaronson.
That recommendation runs counter to the basic psychology of Pulisic and the squad. It would disrupt what appears to be a very good team chemistry. I have the same worry about relegating a fully healthy Reyna to a substitute role. Each sees himself as an alpha (in this squad), and neither is particularly easygoing about it.
