Yep. He also played more seasons in MLS than Clark and had a couple of caps for the Nats. But he wasn't a fan favorite here (or probably anywhere).
One huge difference is personal stability. Josh Williams is making 325K a year while Clark played in an era where starting players quit to attend dental school or become bakers.
Yes. That's part of why the league is better now than then. Even adjusted for inflation, Lucas probably makes more in one year than the whole roster did in 1996.
That is a cool list of lists. I was doing some Crew trivia-esque questions based on those lists sometime this year. Seeing the guys who are on the three big lists - games played (maybe minutes played), goals, assists. Legends. McBride, Gaven, Meram, .. and Pipa. I wonder when Crew will update it next (last updated in 2020).
I don't know at what stage of tonight's game this post was made, but Zardes has two tonight. (The game's in a half time weather delay, so I don't know how long ago that happened.)
Milton Valenzuela has 1 start out of 5 games FC Lugano has played. Not sure of the money he got but we would be a better team if he took whatever we offered as he would start and Pedro would be a winger still which would be real nice. Hope he stays healthy , really thought he was a good player and we would sell him one day for a nice transfer fee. Sucks it didn’t work out that way.
Gyasi Zardes scored again last night. 9 goals now in all competitions. MigueLOL Berry has 6 shots on target in 2022. Remarkable stuff.
You should compare Gyasi to Cucho, not Berry. I get why you do it, but we were always going to dump Gyasi for a much younger, more talented player.
Cool, Cucho is a better player than Gyasi. I understand your attempts at revisionist history here, but Gyasi is a worlds better player than Miguel Berry. Columbus Crew started Miguel Berry 13 matches this season before Cucho was here. That's managerial malpractice. I know that's difficult for the soccer experts in your section to handle. But he's been utter shit this season. Even the staunchest Gyasi defenders know and acknowledge we've upgraded with Cucho, that doesn't erase Berry's 13 ineffective starts. Defending Miguel Berry's worth, not acknowledging he's been utterly dreadful, is certainly the stangerist hill to possibly die on. As an admirer of St. Jude, I can't help but appreciate your dedication to lost causes.
Continually comparing two players that are no longer Crew players in an attempt to bash the Crew is very on character for you. Keeping stats on Gyasi and his performance is one thing, him doing well could bring the Crew a benefit, but the comparison with Berry is just kicking a dead horse. I’m sure you will continue to do it.
I will. The decision to start an inferior player in every aspect of the game for 10 matches, or however long they were both here has affected the Crew's standing this season. I'm sure you will continue to say that choosing to start a player with one goal every 655 minutes and one shot on target every 219 minutes had no effect on the Crew's results. This stubbornness and utter lack of self awareness is very on brand for you.
I understand why it was done, both from an on-field and off-field perspective. I didn’t say I agree with it, Gyasi may very well have scored off his knee on a deflection that could have gotten us points, but I understand why. I’m not so tarnished by fandom of one player that I cannot see other factors in what happened.
