OK i did. very interesting @benni... overall i agree. but i still think you can win with a prolific 9 or a #10 with the right personnel and plan. for United looks like ten Hag will need to use what we have and try to convert some players into what he needs. i don't see it with a lot of them though
In a move that would make Woody blush, we are apparently paying ALL of Telles wages at Sevilla during his loan and there is no option to buy. What is the point then?
In that is the case, then if Ronaldo wants out all he has to do is get in a training ground fight with Hannibal …
I actually hewrd its the opposite. They pay his wages in full, no loan fee or obligation to buy. Another report said Sevilla is paying €2mil of his wages
That would make a lot more sense. I read in on two different places on Twitter earlier and I couldn’t wrap my head around why we would do that.
Over the moon to announce I have been given the opportunity at this amazing football club to help coach and develop the next generation of talent coming through the system. Grateful and honoured , now time to give back to the younger generation #MUFC pic.twitter.com/ldOTZMK20u— Tom Huddlestone (@Huddz8) August 3, 2022 We finally get our man. Wasn't @johno a fan back in the day? Also we have this gem from dark savante: "Huddlestone, for my money is the best passer in the league. I believe he'll show that given time and the correct formation."...https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/u...r-teams-thread-r.603270/page-14#post-12882950
Darron Gibson, but better at every other aspect of the game. Hopefully he can teach the youngsters a thing or two.
This is to be expected. We've been poorly run for some time and there's no shortcut out of it. We've recruited poorly and in order to get or keep players we've overpaid. All of those decisions as a whole were wrong, but some of the individual ones were only half wrong. To get out from under it, we have to eat some salary or bench some players who don't want to go elsewhere for PT. Hopefully, with a manager who knows what he's doing and has some pull or at least a market he can dip into, we can start to get good to very good players at comparable wages at a young age. That way when we have to move someone on, there will be more clubs who can afford their wages. One of the reasons I like the Malacia buy is that he's only 22. If he isn't exactly what we need in 3 or 4 years time OR there's some LB we have to have (or we want to promote Fernandez, we can sell Malacia, probably at a profit and bring in the replacement. As others have said, we have/had a bloated squad so dropping numbers isn't bad. The issue is we need a midfielder and we need an attacker. Ten Hag doesn't just want any old player though. He wants FDJ and he wants a left footed RW who understands positional play. I think the attacker is complicated because we may also need a CF and we are trying to sort Ronaldo situation. We aren't making any mistakes now, we are paying for mistakes of the past. There are no easy wins.
It puts him in the shop window for somebody to buy next season. Plus considering last year how both managers were stuck with rosters that were way too fat with people that couldn't or wouldn't be moved, I rather we loan guys out for cheap so we can sell them next season and give manager a squad size that is just right, that allows him to actually give people enough playing time and keep people motivated.
This ‘we have a bloated squad’ tagline is mostly BS - only reason it gains traction is because the depth is full of s&&t and people understandably want those players gone. Contrast that with say City where everyone lauds their depth at every position. Sure - bin those who are not MUQ - but at least sign some replacements. We are capable of doing neither and the bloated squad excuse doesnt cut it.
No. I am not a fan of going for players that play for rivals unless they are world beaters. Mata was an exception at the time because he really was dominating. RVP was another exception. ETH is looking for a left footed right flanker. There has to be someone out there other than Ziyech.
I think @Deadtigers has a point. By comparison, Liverpool have skirted at times with a tight ship. They paid for it with the untimely injuries after selling Lovren, but I think there's another lesson to glean from that. It might be in part why we have seen players unhappy here (Donny, Martial, Henderson, etc), while Liverpool has kept a better balance for the most part and retained a more competitive group. I think AWB and Scott can play as CBs if need be. We can trim away a bit and invest in proper players more where needed.
Plus Pulisic actually does a decent job as a false 9 and we need all the help we can get up front. Having a guy that can play all 3 roles is a bonus.
Sounds crazy but could be the short term answer !! I’d try him in the holding midfielder role What a talent !! Playing pre first team football at 15 !!
