He drifted infield but was terrible on the ball. I said it wrong. I just noticed a lot of his touched came in a more narrow position.
Morrison was definitely more effective in the second half, dropping deeper. Rooney mentioned that in his post-game presser. We’ve still got a long way to go, but this is encouraging. Still in too deep a hole to make the playoffs, but I no longer feel that we’ve wrapped up the Spoon with months to go in the season.
Last night was great. Today though, I see that LA gets a guy who was making $4 million dollars a year in Europe, despite already having several highly paid guys. Riqui Puig has reached a verbal agreement to join LA Galaxy, reports @diarioas pic.twitter.com/gSR4mTE7yc— B/R Football (@brfootball) August 1, 2022 Meanwhile, we got 2 guys who, between them, have run through every team in every single league in Europe with Palsson and Morrison. Seems about right!
With MLS transfer deadline 2 days away, D.C. United continues seeking DP attacker. Three apparent finalists, including Belgian striker Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace), though he's a longshot. Others from S America & Europe. One source rates overall chances at 70%. #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 2, 2022
That would jive with what Steve Howe was telling us pregame on Saturday and Bentke would be the "name brand" player he was alluding to. He said they'd been working on that deal for close to 6 months, although he said that player was in their prime, 27-28 ys old when I asked if the name brand player was a name for the sake of being a name or a guy who is going to be able to come for 3-4 years and help build the club after he'd talked about a conversation Rooney facilitated with Cavani that went nowhere.
transfermarket.com lists his transfer fee at $1.65m but then they also say silly things like he is ranked #3 on DCU, ranked #197 in all of MLS, and they rank him #72 of all US players.... so, um, yeah.
Anderlecht of Belgium want to sign DC United’s Donovan Pines and are willing to spend a $2m transfer fee, according to multiple reports. The 24-year-old American center-back has been a mistake-prone defender with DC, and receiving $2m would be good business. #LetsFly #MLS pic.twitter.com/uEuEo1T0wj— MLS NETWORK (@mlsnetwork) August 3, 2022 Pines has a lot of talent, but he reaaaally needs to improve his footwork. Hopefully, the training is better in Belgium than in DC, and he can become the player a lot of us hoped he would become.
Is that an official MLS outlet? seems a bit harsh, if accurate, comment for league outlet. But that's great news for him - he really should blossom in a different environment. David Stokes he is not.
Hmmmm, the original post was at 11:02am The tweet was at 12:31 pm I wonder if that post was the source of the tweet's rumor
I've read that he possibly has a hamstring injury and has fitness problems so he'll fit in well here.
Shuttleworth is our New Ass. Coach! Continuity of the trend of hiring folks with English accents.... WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 3, 2022) – D.C. United announced today that Pete Shuttleworth will join the club as an assistant coach pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. The Englishman joins Head Coach Wayne Rooney’s technical staff from Derby County Football Club, where he served as a vital component of Rooney’s coaching staff in the English Championship last season. “Pete worked with me at Derby County during my time as manager there and he has experience with analysis, coaching, and recruitment,” Wayne Rooney, D.C. United Head Coach, said. “He’s someone I trust very much and he has a lot of qualities to help make the team better. It’s good to have him come in with me but it’s also good for the team and the club to get someone of Pete’s ability to help us improve moving forward.” Shuttleworth started his career in 2006 after holding his first managerial job at Shirebrook Town FC, a semi-professional club in the Northern Counties East League Division One, at 27-years-old. Following his stint as manager, he joined Sheffield FC, the oldest soccer club in the world, as an assistant coach then held a similar role with Worksop Town FC as he worked his way up the English soccer pyramid. Following his time in the lower leagues, Shuttleworth joined Birmingham City FC in 2015 under Gary Rowett. After working two years as a scout, he became the Head of Tactical Analysis at Birmingham City FC in 2017 where he led pre-match preparations for the club through video analysis and game reports. Following five years with Birmingham City, the highly-rated Shuttleworth joined Rooney as a first team assistant coach and analyst at Derby County in 2020. “Firstly, I want to thank ownership and Wayne for their trust in me to help propel the club forward in the assistant coach role,” Pete Shuttleworth, D.C. United Assistant Coach, said. “I enjoyed my time with Wayne at Derby County and fully believe that the style of play he implements will translate well to MLS. I was excited about the project here at D.C. United and look forward to the challenge of helping the club achieve great things under Wayne.” Shuttleworth is a product of the Nottingham Forest (1988-1995) and Coventry City (1995-1996) Academies. He also represented Great Britain at the Triathlon from 2012 to 2016.
This is rough, man. Matthew Doyle (MLSsoccer): so @AnalysisEvolved's g+ has Romo as the worst goalkeeper of the past decade of any who've played 500+ minutes.I don't think tonight's going to help his numbers.https://t.co/zOHdrfvgS8 pic.twitter.com/KTew3RpzhZ— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) August 4, 2022 Doyle's tweets last night were savage. Took Romo to task for his footwork on the OG off Birnbaum: "Cackling at this dive from Romo. Dude has provided so many priceless moments in so few appearances." .
