Even after Kamara scored, we couldn’t get the ball. Montreal looked like the home side going for the winner.
A grass-cutting curled shot at such close range? I can forgive Room for that. Especially considering I don't think he predicted Moreria would literally swing his boot at the ball and miss so badly he made himself fall over.
Artur, Morris, and Nagbe were in at the same time. That's sitting on a lead. I'm not one of these people who say "Porter out!" every time someone gives away the ball, but sitting on a lead is sitting on a lead. How many corners and crosses from the byline were there in just the last 17 minutes?
Room could have come out for the corner, maybe. Moreira whiffed. Pedro had some injury issues. And now the tactics are sit in and play long balls to cucho. Porter relies too much on individual performances than a game plan.
On the final play, their keeper came out into traffic a caught the ball. Have we ever seen Room do that? Ever? He always sits on his line and lets the clown show unfold in front of him. Sometimes he makes a great reaction save, more often he bitches at his defense for allowing the shot.
When you can predict our tactics and can clearly see from the examples of how many games we've completely given up -- literally at the last second some times -- I think any team that plays Columbus, even if you're 2-0 down in the 85th minute, can rightfully believe they can still get a result.
Those are probably the right subs given the schedule. We need another winger or LB because idgbekeme is now our second bench option at winger.
I disagree that simply because we had Morris, Nagbe, and Artur on at the same time, we were playing defensively. I actually think a midfield trio of Nagbe-Morris-Artur could work wonderfully when we're not playing in a system with a #10. Nagbe can be an offensive presence... if only we had decent wingers/any width to this team at all. But you are right that tonight, Porter used all three of them to play defensively. And that was stupid.
Sometimes he would, sometimes he wouldn't, same as Room. Don't let this turn into that idiotic conversation about cornerbacks or whatever idiocy that was a year or two back.
I mean, maybe, but Morris kept popping up as the furthest forward of the 3, which seemed completely insane to me.
This is Major League Soccer. We don't have Donnarummas or Edouard Mendys. We have Rooms, Freis, and Blakes. None of them would make that save.
Absolutely agree. His talents chasing people down and nipping at their feet are better suited in defensive midfield to close a game out. Pushing Nagbe forward would make much more sense.
I mean, even the elite aren't going to make that save that often. They MIGHT come and get the cross, which is a halfway decent criticism, but I guarantee you they wouldn't do it every time if the same thing happened several times.
Jesus Christ. I understand the natural tendency to want to be pissed after what we just saw, but we were nine games unbeaten. We had gone like 360 minutes at home without giving up a goal. We had more chances to put the game away and just ran into the combination of bad luck and good goalkeeping. And when an hour-and-a-half weather delay completely changes a match, everyone just says "Oh, that's typical. It's what always happens." Huh? Weird shit happens sometimes. When a long delay like that happens, it affects everyone differently. All you can do is hope that when you come back out, your guys have more energy in their legs than the other team. Tonight, we didn't. That sucks. But it's life. Before the delay, there was no reason to think the personnel we had on the field would be unable to defend the lead until the end. As much as everyone wants to attack attack attack all the time, there's a reason why soccer teams all over the world defend when they have the lead. I get so sick of this bullshit about "winners don't park the bus" or "good teams don't play not to lose" when it happens all the goddamned time. A great aerial player outjumped Mensah on a set piece, and Moreira misplayed a cross. And not for nothing, but our DP striker failed to finish on some really good chances. Porter is way down the list of reasons for this loss.
