I think it may be the plain vanilla thread title(s) throwing people off.

Yeah, you are probably right. Seeing "Chris Richards at Crystal Palace" automatically suggests any and all topics related to the USMNT, and even to the USWNT these days. Maybe it is the word, "at." Perhaps "Chris Richards @ Crystal Palace" would help keep us focused.

It’s not that, it’s the reverse/obverse/converse feeling you get when you see a whimsical thread title and know you’ve come to the right place.

If EPB is accustomed to playing deep, then it may be a problem because we play a high line defense. He would need to retrain his decision making.

Either I am not feeling the reverse/obverse/converse feeling or perhaps I am getting just the inverse feeling, or more likely, I never know where I am let alone that I am in the right place.

He didn't even play a preseason game with them right? I am holding out the slimmest of hopes that he will get the start today.... This post makes me think it is a tad more likely but not probable. It would really make my Friday if he did though.

He played the last 15 minutes or so of their last friendly. I’d be pretty surprised if he starts today, but I’m hoping he’ll at least get subbed in.

I'm kinda sick and tired of the clubs pimping the Americans for their promos online and then not playing them. Same shit Juve pulled with Weston the other week.

Baptism by Fire! Chris Richards at Crystal Palace

It seems that EPL teams all have eight games scheduled before the international break. It would be great to see Richards get plenty of opportunities (and to play well, obviously).

    v Arsenal (today)
    @ Liverpool (Mon Aug 15)
    v Aston Villa
    @ Man City
    v Brentford
    @ Newcastle
    v Man United
    @ Brighton

    International Break

I’m not sure if an EFL Cup game will have to be squeezed in there somewhere.

Google has them playing with two CBs. If they don't go to a 3CB backline then I expect Richards to sit a lot :-(

Until Richards plays, let’s hope Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City torch the Palace. Then he can ride to the rescue and put out the fire.

Let’s hope Arsenal and Palace torch each other. Don’t forget about Turner.

And therefore quite satisfying from my jaundiced perspective. Play Richards and I’ll make an immediate turnabout.

they had like half a million chances to level it up and then gave away a stupid goal at the end to put it to bed. It was an exciting game from a neutral POV but obviously we are all rooting for Richards 1st and Palace 2nd.

Not sure I need to say this explicitly, but I never root for an injury. Never. That means Richards will need to advance through his own positive play. I feel the upcoming Palace schedule sets up reasonably well in this regard.

The next match at Liverpool opens up a couple of possibilities. With a full ten days to prepare, this might be the time/opponent to practice (and play) with 3 CBs - enter Richards.

Absent Richards, I’ll root for a Liverpool goalfest - more than today’s paltry two Arsenal goals - unless/until Richards arrives to staunch the bleeding.

Then Richards to start and establish his silky-smooth two-way presence v Aston Villa. And away we go, launch complete …

Richards and Turner both riding the pine. I don't see Richards getting much playing time before the World Cup. :(
