I read somewhere several years ago that the first soccer team to play it at a game was Belgium's Club Brugge.
The White Stripes were an American rock duo from Detroit formed in 1997. This phenomenon has its roots in a UEFA Champions Leaguefootball match in Italy in October 2003, during which fans of Belgium's Club Brugge KV began singing the riff in a game against Italy's A.C. Milan. They continued the chant after Club Brugge KV striker Andrés Mendoza scored a goal. Club Brugge KV won the game, and the song subsequently became the team's "unofficial sports anthem". interesting
Mendoza had to influence this soccer culture phenomenon as the fans were to ignorant to do so themselves.
That's the Mendoza that played for us ca. 2010.... And, relative to the local pointyball team.... https://www.sgsosu.net/osu/songs/seven.html
I know a lot of people don't like the C-R-E-W chant. They think it's cringe. It's not soccery enough (boo OSU!). Whatever. But I like it because it's one of the few times most of the casual fans around the stadium actually get involved in a song/chant because it's simple and familiar to most of them. Not everything has to be Euro/South American knock-off. Also, I think your idea of having a few more people would help, but the chant does seem to come across well on the TV broadcasts already.
This, 100%. It's an automatic engagement booster. And even the people who claim not to like it are still out there screaming their letter. It's ingrained in the Columbus Sportsfan psyche.
Yep, it's ingrained in the psyche and that's something that we should embrace rather than pretending to be above it. Now if we could just figure out how to contort our arms to form the letter R.
Found our new game intro video: I have replaced all the dragons in Skyrim with the state of Ohio. pic.twitter.com/zd1rXTLMOG— Trainwiz (@trainwiz) August 1, 2022
Yeah, blowing a late 2 goal lead at San Jose was bad and still hurts. Not being able to hold on at DC also hurts (and cost me 5 Grouchy points).
Especially since wins are a tie-breaker, right? So even if we win out our games in hand are are tied for third, we're still effectively in 5th due to our lower number of wins. Oh, well, not much you can do about the past.
I saw a video about that being the origin and then PSU claims this (which is where I always thought it originated) .... https://onwardstate.com/2017/09/13/penn-state-history-lessons-seven-nation-army/ I believe we can also thank PSU for the use of Kernkraft 400.
