the side seems a mess compared to where they were last year. The entire defensive realm seems like it’s going to be problematic. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Antony sold still.
Shuurs wants to move on but I have only seen one Italian team express interest. This would leave Perie and probably Alvarez as the two back up CBs. Is Bassey going to play CB or LB? Weird that they would splurge on Wijndal and then use Bassey also at LB. I don't know what Ajax will ask for a transfer fee. I think they want to keep Antony for one more season.
From what I read he wants to stay one more season. After that he'll be gone though, and I can't really blame him
Until the transfer window is officially closed, I don't 100% believe Antony will be on Ajax this season. The way they're spending money on attackers specifically, it makes me believe they're operating from a position that he could be gone.
They bought one quality player. The bought a coaches son who is so light weight the wind blows himover. The overpaid for a player who cannot play more than 30 minutes. They took a loan on a player who is in the second division in Italy. this does not inspire confidence.
What did I tell you. Police have confirmed Mo hangs around with known criminals, and he has even let them borrow his Ajax issued car. Although they do specify Mo is not involved in any criminality himself. The threats he received apparently have something to do with a girl he was dating, but no other details are given. In Oranje, Timber is part of a 3 CB’s setup at the heart of the defense. Which is completely fine. He’s not terribly exposed, as the other two CB’s can cover opponent’s attackers, aerially speaking. And Timber adds a ton value in build up, playing as a secondary deep-lying playmaker. So I guess it’s a net positive. But yeah, long term he will need to continue to make a massive leap (pun intended ) in defensive positioning and anticipation to succeed as a compensation to his lack of height. There are a ton of great success stories of “short” central defenders over the years.
I from day one said his position should be the midfield, where his build up qualities are more appropriate and his weakness/short length not of importance.
Oh, I totally agree. I just think the quantity (NOT quality except Bergwijn) of players they're bringing in makes me believe they think there's a chance they lose Antony. If he does go, please buy a real replacement!! Also minor cause for concern: I don't see this weekends match listed on ESPN+. Is the Eredivisie deal over? Are us in the US screwed again?
Daramy back to Copenhagen for this season. I hope I am wrong but that transfer might have been just a waste of 12M. Hopefully we can sell him for something close to that. Few guys still to be loaned/sold: Klaiber - probably has basically zero value. Sounds like Utrecht is interested in getting him back. Hopefully can sell for 1M and get something back. One year left on deal. Maybe hold onto if we dont buy a RB. Magallan - Talking about zero value/waste... almost 10M for this guy!!! One year left on deal- I assume will leave on a free anywhere. Kik -- Didn't play last year, 2 years left on contract. I assume will be loaned out or sold for whatever we can get. Anyone else? Not counting the Jong Ajax guys who maybe there'll be a few loans for. Maybe Gorter gets sent away after that JCS match?
Sometimes it doesn't show up until later in the week. I think ESPN NL still has the contract for league games. We will have to wait and see.
@wynaldaisagod - Hamstra and Huntelaar have been told that no new transfers in unless they are off set by a sales. The only player with value is Antony and Ajax do not want to sell him this year. Gorter won't be loaned out as he is figured to be the next keeper after this season from what I've read. The only player who seems to want to leave is Schuurs but I don't know if that will happen. Would really lead to a lack of depth in the back but maybe Perie fills that.
After seeing him play a few (very rare) times I thought they must have been hitting that bottle of akvavit to the bottom before looking at him and than buying him. He was hilariously bad.
I've been expecting this. I'm sure the viewership of Dutch games is minuscule and they are overloaded with soccer from MLS, Germany, Spain, and college games.. They are showing matches on other ESPN outlets in the North America region and of course Mexico.. As @Brilliant Dutch said, you can get an IPTV subscription pretty cheap and watch all the games that way. It's easy to set up, I use VLC media player to stream things.
Mo back on the training field (and smiling too) https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/1418251044/ihattaren-terug-op-trainingsveld-ajax-back-in-business
Not that I don't believe you, but did they release some kind of statement saying as much? I only ask because they have been notoriously late in announcing American tv rights in the past - last year, they made the announcement on August 10th and the first fixtures were August 13th. So it would not be unusual at all to see some press release this week. ESPN has the rights in the NL and South America/Caribbean, so I would think it would make sense to hold them in the US (#wishfulthinking).
They haven't said anything yet from searching the web. I assume someone else will pick up the Eredivisie. Every league in the world at this point is on some streaming device. I could imagine Paramount+ picking it up if ESPN drops it. They have some random, weird leagues. Maybe GOL (I believe they have Cup matches/JCS). But someone will so I wouldn't be too worried.
When we still lived in the house we had Verizon Cable TV but they dropped GOL several years ago. Does Paramount+ carry anything more than the Euro club championship matches (I watched the PSV-Monaco match this afternoon)? You can get an IPTV subscription for about $120/year and have about 10,000 channels.
Paramount+ carries Serie A, Scottish, Brazilian, Argentine leagues, and Asian club competitions. So they carry quite a bit - one would think they'd be eager to add the Eredivisie if ESPN drops the rights.
