Mammana, lol. I sometimes forget he’s only 26, seems like he’s been playing forever…

And Armani, lol… We can’t have Dibu injured. Holy cow… what an error.

Loco, I’ve gotta ask… When is River going to move on from Armani? I mean, you’ve gotta be tired of his mistakes. Is there in the youth team that has any promise to take the helm?

I haven’t heard of any “wonderkids” in the position per se, but there are some decent keepers. Centurion, for example, has done quite well the few times Gallardo gave him a chance… maybe he isn’t going to be the new Fillol, but often times keepers have their big break at a later age than field players, so he could be a possible replacement. I am not expecting him to be a star, but he could he an acceptable option (ala Rossi in Boca)

I don’t know if it’s just a baseless rumor, but I also heard Muslera’s agent reached out to River to offer him to the club. But like Armani, he is an accomplished keeper who is now past his best days.

We’ll see what the future of our goal looks like. In recent transfer windows there were a few inquiries for Pulpo, but Franco himself turned them down since he wanted to stay in River til the WC in order to not destabilize and lose his spot in Scaloni’s roster. I wouldn’t be surprised if he seeks a move in January after the mundial: he already won the Libertadores and doesn’t have much else to accomplish in River. Having played in SA his whole career, it’d be his last chance to make a big paycheck… if not some smaller European club, at least Mexico or the Middle East

Holy shit! @SupaMario , @Ron Mexico , @megamac20817 , @ElMuneco … remember Cirigliano — the promising youngster heralded as the next great 5, many labeling him the new Mascherano with the class of Redondo?

Well, he just got arrested for home invasion and armed robbery

    https://lapaginamillonaria.com/riverplate/Ezequiel-Cirigliano-fue-detenido-por-robo-en-una-casa-20220815-0005.html

Talk about bad choices and wasted potential… and I thought Krannevitter was a flop. Krane is a huge success story next to this guy

That is really sad. Some of these kids are pushed and hyped to the hills and when they do not achieve success, they are disregarded as yesterday’s news. Unfortunately, they are not educated in anything other the sport itself.

I believe it was Dybala who once was doing an interview and he was asked “What you be doing if you did not make it as a footballer?” And he was genuinely stumped. He did not have an answer. And I can assure you many of these youngsters do not have a Plan B when it comes to life. I think their parents and those around them need to look after these young footballers more carefully.

From my understanding Cirigliano has a long history of substance abuse, supposedly cocaine and alcohol (and who knows what else). This was the main reason he could never find his place anywhere and would always get released, even when he tried his luck in the MLS.

Quite sad… we saw even bigger stars like Adriano completely ruin their lives for similar reasons. Centurion seems headed that way too

While I think college sports is a bit silly and has its own faults I guess that's one advantage of the athletic system here is there is an opportunity for athletes to learn something useful besides kicking a ball.

Meanwhile what in the world is the point of VAR if you can't even get a penalty for grabbing and picking up the ball?

    Hi! Long time no see.

What's the substance abuse recovery look like in Argentina? I know here in the states the stigma of addiction is much lower than it was 20-30 years ago.

I mean it’s still quite looked down upon, but the thing is it’s so hard to help people who fall in these holes.

Another example is Brian Fernandez.. look at his numbers across multiple clubs. He was a very efficient goal scorer who could have had great potential if he got serious. He could have been a beast, but unfortunately he kept falling back down and couldn’t escape those demons. His lack of discipline made him get released from multiple clubs despite his scoring record.

    It’s very sad tbh

We're on the cusp of a players ruining their careers for being abusive misogynists as well, with Villa seemingly speed-running how many assault allegations he can pick up before he actually gets prosecuted for them (and by the by, shame on Boca for its response to those accusations).

I was shocked to hear about Cirigiliano's arrest, but mostly because I had missed the rumors about his substance abuse. I remember he was briefly meant to be the next big thing in River's midfield in the immediate post-Kranevitter, and he just never panned out - now we know why.

Well now he’s claiming he’s schizophrenic and was not taking his medicine, which is a whole nother issue.

But that doesn’t necessarily rule out the substance abuse conversation either. In fact a lot of people self medicate and abuse drugs to deal with mental health issues. I had originally heard rumors (waaay before this happened) that that was the reason he didn’t last in Dallas FC and barely got any playing time the few months he was there. When he returned to River and was miraculously given a second chance by Gallardo (after the whole refusing to train saga), he was eventually cut and released from the club for getting a DUI. I know his loan with Tigre was also terminated early, not quite sure the reason.

Unfortunately the guy has some serious problems… I wouldn’t doubt that all three claims (substance abuse, depression, and schizophrenia) all have some truth to them. Hopefully he can find some peace, but unfortunately this whole situation has once again put him in the public eye and it’ll be hard for him to go on with his daily life without being scrutinized and mocked by random scumbags on the street. He might end up spiraling more because of all this.

The worst part is knowing that he'll end up in Argentine prison and will just go deeper and deeper down the path of criminality. Our prison system is basically just a crash course in more serious crime, due to a combination of overcrowding, understaffing, indifference, incompetence and just outright connivance between prison authorities and gangs.

@SupaMario nice finish by Colidio today vs. Velez... his loan ends at the end of the year, no?

Unlike with Retegui, Tigre has no buyout clause in the contract... Inter's not going to make room for him, wouldn't be surprised to see him end up on loan in Boca or even River in 2023...

Yeah, it expires at the end of the year. He was a Boca product and Boca did get a decent amount of change for him from Inter.

It is evident he has real talent and clearly shows has European experience in his game. He has certain tricks and flicks that helps him. I did not get to see a great deal of him at Inter, he barely ever featured for the first team, I followed him here and there but not in great detail. Ditto for his move to Belgium.
But he’s been a joy for Tigre.
Although, I do wonder if the reason he is thriving is because he is playing next to a goal scorer like Retegui. It will be interesting to see how does without him and perhaps vice-versa. He does help create and drag defenders out of the way for Mateo.

But I’d think he’d want to try his hand again in Europe. Maybe get loaned or moved out to a team in Spain like Getafe or something like that. Boca and River will surely raise his profile but if Europe comes knocking, I think he’d go.

As if European wages didn’t make it hard enough to hold on to our young talents and sporadically bring back some from the old continent, crap like this makes no serious player want to play in Argentina

Anybody see that ridiculous penalty awarded to Newell’s yesterday?

If not, go around 2:40 mark to take a look. But whatever, the penalty was saved.

A win vs Arsenal gets Tigre into the CL. It is also a match where Galmarini is celebrated because he is retiring and where Tigre show off a throwback jersey from the 50s…

mind you they are also playing in Victoria… and what happens…?they allow three pathetic goals in a matter of six minutes, a match they were dominating…

Anything Arsenal is kicking is going on goal or they’re scoring…
