Congrats to '04 forward/winger Jackson Hopkins on his first MLS assist. Interesting to see him taking free kicks for DC United. He was part of the US U20 CONCACAF Champions side. https://t.co/hZV0uO1UL7— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 24, 2022
Ku DiPietro had some interesting moves and feints in the first half, but it's really hard to evaluate anyone on the team because it stinks so bad. Hopefully Palsson can stabilize central midfield -- I presume in place of Durkin -- and then you can get some replacements for Pines and Skundrich. That could mean some decent possession and chances to evaluate TKP & Hopkins for real.
On a separate note, it was not a hugely significant play -- it ended up leading to a long shot blasted over the bar -- but there was an interesting little sequence for Luna in the 95th minute against FC Dallas there. Rode a challenge, skipped over another, and managed to release the ball to a teammate for a desperation long blast to tie up the game. Didn't come off for RSL, but the sequence suggested to me Luna's old-man dribbling game might translate (at least from time to time) from USL & the U20s to MLS.
And I guess Nyeman and others too, especially since they seem to have a bit of an assembly line going. One assumes Rooney will have the opportunity to improve the roster but the young guys could definitely benefit from more quality around them. Fountas is a player I certainly enjoy watching, nice pickup.
Serge Ngoma '05 scored the NYRB's first goal against Austin and was injured in the 30th minute. The kids are alright, alright, alright 😎@Audi I #RBNY pic.twitter.com/BZRELjEFiu— New York Red Bulls (@NewYorkRedBulls) July 25, 2022
Cam Harper also scores. Good goal. He is playing as a winger/attacking midfielder after replacing Ngoma. EDIT: Video: Put his defender on skates! @cameron__harper restores the two-goal lead!@Audi I #RBNY pic.twitter.com/A0fPPM4AoI— New York Red Bulls (@NewYorkRedBulls) July 25, 2022
Harper with a pretty sweet assist too. Can Harper replaced the excellent Ngoma after his injury and has been just as good, or better. He scored a classy goal before this - but check out this assist to Barlow. #RBNY has a 4-2 lead after a Driussi goalazo. ATL looks pretty dire in a 3-back system; switches to four in the back and Caleb Wiley starts looking dynamic going forward on the left-hand side. When it comes back in the other direction, well... But the offense, it looks good.
It looked like he hurt his hammy. Hopefully it’s a typical 2-3 week recovery (usually 3-4 for older athletes) that we see for this type of injury. Fingers crossed it’s not the type Reyna’s had. He was doing so well up until the injury.
Is anybody watching the Crew? [Other than Kerr. We get his propoganda.] Is '01 Aidan Morris having a great season? I just saw a stat online indicating the Crew haven't lost a game that he's started this season.
I have watched roughly 85% of the games this season. I mentioned in another thread that he really is a destroyer with lots of running an energy. He is have a good season. I believe (we were debating this on the Crew Board) about his passing, dribbling and overall technique on the ball. When paired with Nagbe who is not the pass forward passer of the ball it can feel like neither is Morris. He seem to play the safe pass and recycle the ball. Thats largely what Porter asks of him so its hard to say if he could do anything. The point with Nagbe is the team can often seem slow and safe because neither one of them progress the ball via passing. Nagbe is a dribbler. He is a locked in starter so a good season for him is to remain healthy and play a bunch of minutes the rest of the season. I want to see a more forward thinking Morris next season. However, this season is about PT and staying healthy.

Tolkin and Harper played in the first half against Barca. Tolkin looked pretty good. Ofori and Edelman on for the second half. EDIT; Caden Clark on for the 2nd half too. Forgot about him.
