Us? You are the one that is telling me I’m wrong. I am telling you that I looked through these LigaMX U-15 and U-17 rosters from GA Cup and I saw plenty of Mexican-American kids. Do I know if their parents moved with them? You are right that I don’t know, but I don’t think it’s a big leap in judgment to suggest that they didn’t.
Who are they? They just played in the tournament or do they reside at the Mexican Academies? Just hard to believe when FIFA and Liga Mx/FMF knew they were breaking those rules just a few years ago. Anyone know or heard of a special agreement between FIFA and Mexico to allow it? I haven't heard anything but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But then again I'm a nerd and do follow this thing pretty closely.
I didn’t write down a list because most of them weren’t any good. Most American kids in LigaMX are the leftover prospects that aren’t good enough for the best academies in this country. That’s the simple reality. If you want, go look at the LigaMX youth websites. They have rosters there, and you’ll see many birthplaces within the USA.
I didn't expect you to write them down, but you did just say you looked them up recently and can probably quickly post them for all of us. I can't find any. I watched alot of GA Cup games and don't remember any dual Nats playing for Tijuana, Tigres, Monterrey, Pumas, or Leon. I would think knowing the FIFA rule that most would fall under the age 16 or proximity exemptions. If I'm wrong I would like to know specifics so I can adjust my knowledge. Please post any info that would be helpful. Thank you.
I wouldn't be surprised if their are some Mexican-American's that have slipped through the cracks because it would be pretty shocking if FIFA could go through the thousands and thousands of obscure youth players and sort through their origin story. A mega prospect like Sullivan though is another story.
I want a job with FIFA or CONCACAF tracking down these youth players' nationalities and registrations. I'm not even kidding.
https://sub16.ligamx.net/ Click on a team. Brings you to the rosters. Click on the players, and it lists their place of birth. I’m not going to spend any more time going through it than I did weeks back. It’s there if you want to look through it. If not, it’s not that important to either of us then.
Might depend on the definition of family. What if grandparents live in Mexico? Certainly not Sullivan's case, as it seems that his German grandad is a famous professor from UPenn.
Alot of self reporting and random checks, but I don't think teams want to screw with FIFA and lie to them and get caught and receive their wrath for a few 15 yr olds. Remember the few teams in Europe that got caught and remember the severe punishment they received? I do remember reading an article where Mexican teams cleared their rosters pretty quick before FIFA got heavily involved. I haven't heard much since.
Agree. I don't think it is a wide spread issue like in the past...I am sure their are a few that slip through the cracks, but I doubt many are trying to slide anything by FIFA likely they just legitimately live with a relative now for whatever reason despite being born in the US.
The "age 16 rule" only applies to the EU/EEA (because they have a shared mobility agreement). Liga MX has to wait until age 18 like the rest of the world.
Confused the Sullivans with the Aaronsons. Thanks. I don’t think he’ll be stunted at Philly, either, but obviously Dortmund is great.
Cavan got a nice write-up from @ussoccer97531 in his thread of most improved U15/U17 players: Cavan Sullivan ('09): There were games in Fall he showed his talent level, but wasn't consistent, considering he's playing against kids two years older. He's another that took a huge leap in Spring season. He's now become consistent and taking over games regularly at U-15 level.— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) June 22, 2022
Question for my fellow Cavan-ites. CONCACAF U-15 Championship will be held in 2023 for 2008s. As a rising ‘09, do we think Cavan gets his first official YNT call-up in this upcoming U-15 cycle? I’ve got to think he does.
He should. I think he will. He was part of an ID camp within the last year for 07’s, so USSF recognize his ability already. I don’t think it’s insignificant that his brother also plays for USYNT’s. Most will deny that has an effect, but I think it usually does have an effect, even if small.
Just a quick comment on a possible explanation for most of our dual national players being somewhat one dimensional: Guys that have both athleticism/skill AND vision/off ball movement etc are possibly more likely to be recruited very strongly by their national teams. Those are the guys that are closer to "world class". Dest chose us, but if he had been recruited more aggressively he might not have chosen us. A dual German US national that is raised in Germany might be difficult for us to land if Germany goes in studs up and they are more likely to go in hard if that prospect is seen as potentially world class.
Doesn’t look like Cavan received an invite to the first YNT camp he is eligible for (the upcoming one for the U-15s.) True, he is an ‘09, but it seems like a pretty big snub that he wasn’t called up, especially because this will be the first camp of the cycle. Disappointing.
YNT camps, especially at this age, really shouldn't be seen as a clear 23 or anything. I don't think snub is really the right word here.
Confirmed that Cavan is playing with the ‘08 group on their tour of Austria & Germany. He’s the one that was Photoshopped in on the left. 1557836364602818565 is not a valid tweet id
It should be a fun year for the u15s, all playing together again. Cavan wasn't officially with the Union when they won the u12 GA Cup- he was still at Delco. He would play tournaments and friendlies with them though and it was insane how good they were as a group.. There's youtube channel with all of those games from Spain/Portugal/Brazil- and they were destroying big clubs. Hope they can rekindle that magic.
