When City have a bad year they finish 2nd. When Pool have a bad year its 4th or 5th.

Lyon head of recruiting Bruno Cheyrou has stated that Lyon needs to reduce it's squad size. When specifically asked about Paqueta his response... "we are prepared for every eventuality"

May be an opportunity to wait it out a bit and see if they get desperate if/when they are unable to move others.

I would say it is a bit too early to start fapping

Three big issues with the team were at 9, in midfield and at fullback

Obviously a huge amount depends on Jesus being successful up front, Partey playing 30+ games and the midfield recruits delivering.

Just Jesus going down would derail things.

Saka also has been run into the ground. I wonder how long he will be able to keep form without a good break.

Maybe Edu is just being coy, but his quotes didn't make it sound like Paqueta is a target, "I really like Paqueta, I'm big fan since long time. But as of today, the reality is that there's not even a conversation to sign him. There's nothing as we've many players in that position, that's it... can't say more".

I've been arguing for a while that a 4 finish basically requires Man Utd to fail. Possibly Chelsea could wobble, but that seems like wishful thinking when they have all the same players, and a good manager.

Liverpool and City are wildly beyond the level of the other teams in the league.

So for Arsenal to get top 4 needs some luck on top of good recruitment

Like you say, if anything happens to jesus, partey, saka ....

To me, that doesn't sound like he isn't a target. Simply stating that we aren't moving on any more CM/DM until we can unload some (AMN, Torreira, maybe Xhaka, maybe a youngster or 2 on loan) so that we have space on the 25, payroll, etc...

I think it would require Man U to not do significantly better than last year which is certainly possible with the current squad. You still have a good Spuds side and a Chelsea squad that also does any seem to have gotten much better. I think 4th place is for the taking as it is maybe every year, and the question is always if we will take it.

The thing is Man Us performance last season is a significant underperformance - you can't really rely on them to be that terrible again

Maybe, but with their Diva wanting to leave so he can play in the Champions league, they may need both Martial and Rashford to rediscover their form to carry the scoring load.

Damn, Koz drinking the Kool-Aid has got me nervous. I know we’ve reached just about every cataclysmic sign of the apocalypse by now, but surely the Doomsday clock must have just moved a second closer to midnight.

Yup. Assuming there are no other CF recruits this window, that Eddie doesn't suddenly morph into an elite PL striker, and nobody else (like Martinelli) is ready to step into that role, then yes the loss of Jesus will likely derail us.

But isn't Jesus's injury record pretty good? Or am I imagining that? Even so, history is no guarantee of future performance, e.g. Partey.

I'm waiting for @Rewinder to drink the Kool-aid, though that may happen at 12:01 AM on the Doomsday clock.

It sure looks like ten Hag has them stabilized. They should be right back in the scrum for that last Champions League slot (or last two, depending on whether the Blues get in the habit of dropping points again).

not trying to be antagonistic, but how do you base your assessment ten Hag has already stabilized them? Stronger personalities have struggled there since Fergus, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something you're seeing.

All the same players? Didn't Rudiger and Christensen leave? Replaced by a 31 year old Koulibaly who's never played in the Prem?

There just seems to be way less drama surrounding the club. Of course, I don't think anyone would argue their dressing room last season was anything other than completely dysfunctional, so any improvement probably looks dramatic. But the static has markedly subsided.

How that translates to the pitch is an open question. But from our perspective I don't think we can count on them being the same trainwreck as last campaign.

Ronaldo scored more than 30% of their goals last season and he wants out. That by itself could create a new train wreck.

Evidence over the last several years says United are more likely to be a mess than live up to their ‘potential.’ Now, could this be the year they turn it around? Yes, it could, but I certainly wouldn’t put any money on it.

That was the main reason to my mind. Also they still apparently have no recruiting strategy, and they require substantial roster improvements before I begin to get concerned.

Put it this way: is there anyone on that roster that becomes an immediate starter if they joined our team? I'd hear an argument for Bruno, but no way I'd want him over MO8.

and trying to get kounde, only to have barca try to snipe a 2nd player in the same window with the same method.
