I think this is now my favorite quote -- Maybe we are all better off if our beat reporter doesn't ask any questions. At best we would just get unfiltered lip service.
As far as national reporters breaking big stories before local reporters, I think this is because big moves have to go through the league office. It's not like Goff or Twellman are calling Bez while Massive Report/Dispatch reporters aren't. Goff, Twellman, or MLSSoccer.com reporters break the biggest stories for all MLS teams, not just Columbus. Myers is simply bad at his job as a reporter despite reporting for the biggest news outlet in the city. He has doors open for him that other local media don't, and he can't take advantage of it. Maybe one day he'll improve, but you won't miss anything but MCU reviews by leaving him on mute.
I listen to him on the Soccer Speakeasy and a lot of his "analysis" is cringeworthy. Arace mockingly calls him "The Shield" for his prediction that the Crew were going to win the Shield his first year here (2019?).
Arace seems very good at mentoring the steady stream of kids who come through the Dispatch sports newsroom. He very publicly praises them, gives them vocal credit for marginal achievements. I can't help but wonder, though, what he really thinks about someone like Myers. Just about all Crew beat writers start out with very thin resumes. Some learn, grow and then move onto covering sports they actually seem to care about more. But Myers, man... he just doesn't seem to have much in the way of journalistic chops. I don't care what he'd write about, the coverage would be shallow, regurgitative, gullible, and late. It's a rare experience to read a Jacob Myers piece and find myself saying, "I learned something from that."
You haven't made it in Crew Fandom until someone makes a thread calling for your sacking. Jacob should be flattered with the esteemed group of people with which he shares this honor.
When we got Myers, I thought it would be Jardy 2.0. But he hasn't even sniffed that level. I remember Jardy early on stumbling a bit but he really dug in and did a nice job. So nice, he got to move on to something more in his favored lane. I hate to be too tough on young guys but this kid just isn't getting it done. Maybe he'd be better served on another beat or even another profession.
Reed got a job teaching at Dennison, but i think he still lives in Grandview. I'd subscribe if we got him back.
Mitchell isn’t faculty at Denison. He’s a staff writer in the university’s communication & marketing office.
There was a movie about it a year or two ago. Seems more people are doing it nowadays than when Albert Brooks movie years ago.
I thought I was bad at wording things on the bird app. Kevin Molino entering for the first time since he returned from a torn ACL on June 18.Big opportunity for him if he can help #Crew96 get a goal late.— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) July 24, 2022
First time he’s played since he’s recovered or first time he’s played since the first time he’s played since he’s recovered? Which would be more commonly known as the second time he’s played.
Myers had a good article on ticket prices. He did get the number of sell outs so far wrong. The article also uses a chart from reddit but doesn't cite it. https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...-ticket-prices-many-sections-mls/10100167002/
