I think we end up using Taxi as one of the 3 in a 4231, like: ------------Estrada ------------ Kamara - Morrison - Taxi With a second team of ------------ Berry ----------- Ted-Ku - Hopkins - Rodriguez And a third string of -------- Robertha --------- Perez - Djeffal - Smith But yeah, please give us a DM!
Rodriguez will be a presumptive starter when fit and his visa arrives. (Speaking of visas, both Chiellinni and Bale are playing for LAFC and were signed after Rodriguez. Is the FO too cheap to pay for expedited handlling? This really is a cock up.)
Yeah, this has been an unusual delay. Worrisome, even. ---------- Kamara ----------- Rodriguez - Morrison - Taxi could also be a starting quad. I just have trouble thinking we'll have 4 offensive players better than Kamara, and Estrada's been combining well with Taxi. I don't know what to think of Rodriguez yet. In theory, he should be better than Flores. But by the same theory, Flores should have been better than Arriola.
I'm moving this over from the Rooney thread. It's worth pulling out Gressel money quote #1: "We have a big game against Toronto [next week] in the Canadian Cup final, so that will be fun, playing for a real trophy, not just the “Capital Cup.” Money quote #2 is extra damning because Gressel refers to Kasper as "Dave." "If you’re a club that develops young players — Kevin Paredes, Jackson Hopkins — you should go fully that route, like Dallas or other clubs do. But if you’re not, if you’re a team that goes out and spends money on international players and rarely hits on them, or takes chances without fully buying in, you’re living in the middle. In this day and age in MLS, you need to choose. You can’t live in the middle. Dave has been here a long time, he’s had a lot of influence on all the rosters that he’s worked with and there have been a lot of decisions, and many were not as good as the (club) would’ve liked, I think.”
This seems kinda cryptic. Maybe just talking about his injury? 1549519340436918272 is not a valid tweet id
I believe it was reasonable to expect the injury and surgery to be season ending. IIRC, his contract is up at the end of this season and I would imagine that if he stays at DCU, it will be at a reduced salary. Most likely he will try free agency in MLS as I doubt there is overseas interest. I love Bill to death for the history, the "Hamid and Hope", but his stats over the past few seasons are very run of the mill and he hasn't played a whole season in a long time. In the offseason, there will be GKs who are statistically better and cheaper available to upgrade from Romo and Kempin. On a side note, I think the jury is still out on Romo. He's still new to the team and the defense in front of him has been shambolic. He's had call ups from Venezuela, so there must be talent somewhere in there.
While I agree it's early, I have yet to see Romo make a save where I thought, "that was impressive" or "that was something more than routine" The only save I can think of where I even remotely said that was a good save was against orlando when the game was still in doubt, and the shot was right at him.
My middle son told me that he was briefly a teammate of Dave Kasper at UMD back in the day. I think he was a bit surprised at Kasper's career trajectory.
I look at the schedule and can convince myself there's still a way into the playoffs. They need to win 10 of their final 15 to get to 48 points, the point total the last playoff entrant had last season. The next four games are winnable, in fact I think they have to win them to give themselves a shot. Home against Montreal and Orlando, at Charlotte and home against Redbull. They finish at Montreal and Cincinatti, so there are two possible wins awaiting at the end of the season. Meaning four more wins in the middle somewhere. Then I remember how bad the defense is really and the goalkeeping can't save it. They just aren't buttoned down enough to go on a run. Even with reinforcements coming, I just can't see them gluing together in time.
So this was a tweet from Bill Hamid that he's since deleted. He basically said soccer has made him into a beast and wherever that happens he'll continue to be a beast. It was very odd, maybe, kinda, sorta implying that his time at DCU was done. Anyway, bizarre...
Ravel Morrison announcement is today, same tattoo on the right arm in the teaser the club is posting on social media.
Apparently MLSPA put out a list of guys who will be free agents after this season and Bill is on the list. So my guess is that it was related to that
He had also, just before posting that, replied with a couple of laughing-with-tears emojis to someone who had commented in a thread about DC's potential interest in the Minnesota keeper by saying something like that Bill wasn't good enough any more. Bill's response has also now been deleted. You can see the gap where it was here. So, maybe he was just a bit miffed at reading about trade talk and DC fans saying he isn't good enough anymore.
Ever since he opened his mount bitching about the national team not calling him up, he hasnt been the same. Sucks that he had the carry the team at times for so long, but now the team cannot help him by just providing some kind of resistance to opposition attacks.
This is all well and good but when are we signing some defenders, or a dmid or a GK? I'd like to not have any more repeats of the Philly game
Also he was key in helping set up and direct the defense and now we are getting none of that from the goalkeeper.
