The behind-the-scenes documentary that was recorded during the 2021-2022 campaign is about to be released. We'll use this thread to discuss the episodes as they are released (see schedule for release below), and we'll reminisce and review the impact and implications based on what is observed.

The documentary is exclusively available on Amazon Prime Video.

Personally, I was ambivalent when this was announced, but now I'm quite eager to watch based on the squad's performance and increased interest in Arteta and club operations behind the scenes. I'm also wondering if interest in this series could inspire a renewed and/or expanded global appeal in AFC. Perhaps a new generation will come to follow and love this club like Drive to Survive seems to have done for F1.

    Here's the official trailer:

So I've never watched one of these serieseseses on Prime before. Will it be released one episode a week, or will the entire thing drop on August 4th like a Netflix series would?

For anyone who hasn't watched this series before I recommend watching the Man City one. It was fascinating to see glimpses of Pep and his process. Mikel has a very small cameo in it.

Also check out the seies on the Arizona Cardinals. Bruce Arians is worth watching.

Or if you don’t care for Pep (like me) steer clear? I forced myself to watch that whole series back then. Shoulda probably have watched Sunderland Til I Die instead. Still hopin to do that.

Fair enough. The Leeds docuseries on prime is really good.

Sunderland Til I Die was a much better watch than All Or Oil Money Manchester City.

Speaking of oil money, if Financial Fair Play still a thing?

Or was that the biggest "watch as I convince a world class football manager that he's actually an accountant" con job the world has ever seen?

another preview just dropped. Unlike this first, this is primarily just one scene...and it's deep. Hard not to love Arteta after this one. Can't wait to watch next week.

This definitely reminds me of one of my all-time favorite scenes from the movie Hoosiers. (Growing up in Indiana and playing basketball, I've probably watched that movie at least 30x).

I must say I am fairly cynical about these series having done a bit of work in high performance

The Spurs one was mostly interesting for just how cringe worthy and corporate the whole vibe is.

For instance, there is a big thing in corporate land about going to study high performance in say Healthcare or F1, so that you can maybe bring some ideas back to your own industry/organisation - but of course the magic is actually implementing ideas which actually deliver any gains, which means having a culture which is open to trying things, failing fast etc etc (you see heaps of this corporate BS around Agile) - and actually many organisations don't work like that at all.

So of course what happens is lots of organisations understand the idea of this stuff, but fail on a cultural, implementational level. Basically you end up with motivational posters and other "marginal gains" which end up not having any gains because every team has been doing that stuff for years

I think you can see that especially at Utd with the hype around Ole and his "performance culture" where he was popular with the players - but then suddenly everyone realised he wasn't good enough at tactical stuff or management. Now you get ETH, who supposedly is rolling out a tough new regime - yawn - not saying he will fail but it can be quite hard to imitate why a manager like Klopp or Pep is successful.

Another preview just released. This one seemed a little hokey to me at the start, but I came more around to it by the end.

Hmm. I can still watch the video on the same post on Twitter. So it must be copyright or region-related.

    Will try again later.

Like I say, I am a little sceptical these things deliver any actual gains BUT it is a good sign IMO, that they have a culture where they are experimenting.

e.g. Liverpool were mocked by the pundit class for having a throw in coach, yet there is evidence that it was an area (i.e. just another set piece) where there were untapped gains to be had (corners was another one).

    In some ways it may not matter if specific things don't lead to any gains, if their is a belief around the culture they are building. An example;

Once rather hilariously, the All Black captain say down with the first team trainer and asked him to stop doing his pre match motivational talks because the players found them too cringe worthy and not valuable. There is no evidence this produces any gains or otherwise, but it shows that they had a good team culture.

A signifiant percentage of my cynicism on this topic comes from marginal games at Team Sky where the media breathlessly reported on warm downs, colour coded water bottles, and taking your own pillow on tour.

Then it turned out they were elite dopers.

Doesn't mean they didn't have an elite performance culture, but it illustrates the question of what innovations actually bring gains.

Wonder why the club allowed that to be shown. It makes Arteta look silly since we lost 4-0. The problem with Anfield isn't that it is some intimidating fortress because of the atmosphere. Their stadium is as silent as any other until they are winning, or your manager tries to provoke them.

The scary part of going to Anfield is that they have better players than us in every single position on the field, and they are fitter and coached by a better manager.

And here's another preview. This one is f*ing awesome. It shows the culture Arteta is trying to build in the squad.

It's a pre-game peptalk from club photographer Stuart McFarlane before the NLD.

"This is my f*cking club, and I f*cking love all of you." should be printed on official club merchandise.

Yes indeed that’s awesome. And I have a hunch it has Mikel‘s fingerprints on it. Like he was looking for someone to represent the fan base, to bring into the locker room, to foster that deep connection with the crowd. And Stuart turned out to be that guy. I’ve known about him for many years, but rarely have I heard him talk. I always assumed he was a meek, mild-mannered photographer. Not!

this doesn't look like it's from the All or Nothing previews, but this footage after the 3-1 over Spuds after that Pep talk from Stuart McFarlane. Nice to see Arteta giving him proper credit.
