I think the lies about we’re not shopping Zardes and starting Berry was dumb on both ends

Hell, I'm still pissed that we do the Guillermo bow.

    I like my submission:

    To the tune of Copacabana:
    Cucho, Cucho Hernandez
When he scores a goal we'll go bananas

I agree with you both but for different reasons. It's catchy and easy to sing, so I certainly get why it has evolved with the change in striker. I don't like it because I think we should be chanting a guys name AFTER he does something good. We don't shout "ROOOOOOM" 3 seconds before a guy takes a shot at him. We give him his props after he does a good job.

I think the chant it kind of dumb because it puts more pressure on the guy that isn't needed. He knows he needs to score, we don't need to sing a song to tell him what his job is.

"Hey, Hey Cincy! I want to know oo oo oo oo, will you lose 2 nil!?" Maybe we could have sung this right at kickoff.

The amount of hand wringing that would have happened had Porter outright said, "we are trying to find someone to buy Gyasi ASAP because he isn't our guy", and then continued to have him suit up and play would have been nauseating. Coaches and players "lie" to the press all the time. Who gives a crap? What matters is they make the right decisions, and in my opinion they actually handled this situation pretty darn well for the reasons I laid out above.

We just paid $10M for the guy to come here and score goals for us. I don't think a chant like that is going to create pressure for him. He's already very aware that everyone is expecting him to score.

I don't actually think Cucho is hearing the song and thinking as the cross is coming to him, my goodness I better not screw this up while they're singing my name.

I just think it's dumb to sing a song about a player that hasn't done anything good yet.

I think it's dumb that you think it's dumb. Boom. Roasted.

Seriously though, I don't see the issue. The song is catchy and people outside of the Nordecke easily catch on and participate. I get it feels a bit weird to sing it before he even scores, but it generally gets a good percentage of the stadium involved and ratchets up the atmosphere. That alone makes it worthwhile.

In my mind it's similar to signing "We Love Ya". The "where you go we'll follow" lines seems silly to sing, considering it's a home game and 95% of the people there will likely never actually follow the team to an away game to watch, but it's one of the best songs/chants from an entire stadium participation standpoint.

It's tough, but it's our best chant, and now teams across the world have stolen it (or we stole it?). So I think it's okay to use it. The cucho cococabana song should be after a goal.

Any staccato beat and easy chants are the best for everyone to get involved and keep the drums in time.

It is a glaring missed opportunity for the league that they remain so cryptic about salaries, salary cap, and roster mechanisms. So much interest and press can generated from discussions on how teams go about building their rosters if there is actual data to talk about instead of guesswork.

That their own website is woefully out of whack that fans have to piece together what is actually going on is a travesty. That Miami managed to sign too many players for too much money and play a whole season before it was "discovered" is a further stain. The way MLS teams are built and how each team utilizes the framework to build is team is INTERESTING! Why they hide so much of the data is a mystery and a disservice to their biggest fans.

    Transfer window closes August 4th.

    Roster freeze September 2nd.

I must admit I am disappointed that Degenek and Yeboah have failed to displace Williams and Diaz/Etienne.

With our open spot, we have to go defense or winger, right? I do not know how much space we have, but where does everyone think we should go next?

    A) Starting winger.

We may not have space, but if Molino/Matan are not gonna play ever, maybe we open up more space with another move. We do have bodies (Etienne, Diaz, Yeboah, Molino, Pedro, Igbekeme, etc).

    B) Starting CB.

Again, it would be pricey, and we do have bodies. But our set piece D has been so bad. And we need a long term solution here. Mensah, Josh, and Anibaba are all 30+. If we are not believers in Degenek.

    C) Starting LB

Hard to find and pricey, but we need a longer term solution here.

    D) Reserve LB.

Hard to find but could be in our price range. If Sands isn't trusted, Pedro needs help.

    E) Reserve RB.

Moreira has been excellent. Hairston works in theory but is rarely available these days. Having only 4 FBs on the roster is poor.

We have 5 wingers, we’re not signing another.

We have 4 CBs, we’re not signing another.

We have Pedro, we’re not signing a left back.

We have Sands, how much of an improvement can you sign over him that will justify the cost?

We have Hairston and Farsi already, and Etienne in an emergency.

I don’t think we sign anyone else.

I usually use spotrac, but they don't seem to have future years/options/etc on the contracts for MLS like they do for other sports.

The contract stuff on that site looks promising. The stuff I put on the roster page was all on dribbles I got on news articles from when guys signed their deals. Too lazy (so far) to check that site vs the dribbles.

We have 30 roster spots. 4 CBs and 4 FBs is light. We have 4 GKs, FFS.

We will certainly sign someone else. Though it could certainly be a Crew2 call up thing (Farsi).

Plus, if you read my post, I acknowledged we have ample bodies wide (and 4 at CB), but I also think a pricey guy who does not play much could get moved (Matan, Molino).

If we continue to rise up the standings and LZ/Cucho are clicking, I think Bez will look to make a trophy hoisting move before the window closes.

No one is buying or trading for Matan or Molino because 1) what have they literally done in the past 1.5 years? and 2) they are one stupid money.

Josh Williams and Mensah won a cup for Columbus in 2020 and helped make a run to the final in 2015, Degenek is a (until very recently) starting international for a world cup team in Australia. Our defense is one of the best in the league. Why do we need an upgrade there?

We got Cucho and LZ up top. Sorted.

CM has Nagbe and Morris, and then Artur whenever fit, and Iggy and Zawadzki to eat minutes. Sorted.

Wingers could use an upgrade, except 1) we just spent $2 million on Yeboah AND Matan. $2 million is still a very respectful fee for this league, basically means the player has to start now or be a a future star (Yeboah/Matan). Also, Porter and Bez keep talking up Molino, and he’s on a salary that is basically $1.00 short of DP level. Plus we still have Diaz that we spent $1 million on. Until any of them leave, how can we being in a 6th winger? (Didn’t even mention Etienne).

I agree winger is the primary need, but we’ve invested $5 million in transfer fees in that position on 3 guys, spent basically a DP salary on another, and the cheapest dude is by miles the most productive. I just don’t see a winger coming in for purely logistical reasons.

So where can we bring in someone else that definitively improves a position, that isn’t already crowded as hell? I just don’t see it.

I'd love for you to be right. I just think the only position you would bring in a player for that to happen is at winger. How much are we going to spend on one when we already have several of them including i think three on TAM level wages, and 2 seasons now in a row, spent between 1.5 - 2 mil each time in transfer fees bringing someone in to have them not pan out. Having just spent over 10 mil on Cucho....it just seems like a tough sell at this moment.

The only big-ish type of move I can see us making like this would be for someone like Daniel Salloi. A good, MLS proven winger/striker in his prime, who's in the last year of his contract playing for an SKC team who aren't going to do crap this season. They need him but also probably can't make a good case for why he should stay and may want to get something for him before he possibly leaves in free agency at the end of the season. If we can offload Molino, we could easily double Sallois salary and still practically assure him a starting role with the opportunity to actually achieve something this year. Just a thought...

    1) MLS rules wouldn’t allow us to double Salloi’s salary

    2) moving Molino is impossible, except for a buyout (can’t happen until the offseason)

    3) I take your point about needing a winger, but Salloi ain’t the answer, he’s not really that good, Brek Shea 2.0 (remember when he was an MVP candidate a billion years ago?)

Hes had some big seasons (16 goals last year, 14 in 2018) and some fairly empty ones. Fair enough though. My main point is a player of his profile and situation like his about the only way I see us bringing in reinforcements...at least til the offseason. I don't think we're dropping anymore 7 figure transfer fees this summer. The Haslams could surprise though...

No comment and start Zardes would have been better. My point is they stuck with their lie and gave Berry undeserving starts that cost us points . Furthermore i wish we had Zardes for a back up for this season i wouldn’t have discount sold him. He plays and score some goals his value is higher and I’m more understanding when we sell him. Furthermore Porter took shots at Gyasi the whole thing was a dumpster fire

Degenek did displace Williams, but then he got hurt. He got healthy and displaced Williams, but then he got hurt again. I would expect Degenek to start next weekend assuming his recovery doesn't have any setbacks.

Similarly, Yeboah had displaced Diaz, but then he got hurt. He started 10 of the first 13 games this season, but then got hurt against Atlanta and was out for a month. He was finally healthy enough to make the gameday roster this past Wednesday but is still working his fitness back to being able to start. I would look for him to be back in the starting lineup next weekend as well.

Zardes wants to go to the WC. No chance he would have been happy with his backup role and probably was asking to be traded.
