If you go back to our first game of the season, you'll see I actually praised him for that! I love that kind of shit! Sadly, he hasn't exactly matched the output I envisioned when I praised that bravado.
Sources: D.C. United agree deal to acquire forward Miguel Berry from the Columbus Crew. A number of other teams interested, but D.C. got the deal done.Berry, 24, has 10g/2a in 1,817 mins in MLS with Columbus. pic.twitter.com/8js67r8BxA— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 18, 2022 Farewell, leg. Thank you Miguel for resurrecting "The Goals Will Come Era" in 2022. I never thought I'd see such uninspired striker play again. And thank you Columbus for trading him to DC, where I can look forward to laughing at his follies.
As a DC fan, I did chuckle at this post. So, please tell me, what are we in store for with Mr. Berry?
Kid will light the field on fire in his first handful of matches. And then you'll never notice him again.
A short synopsis of what you're getting: Lot's of standing next to opposing CBs. He's really good at staying as close to them as possible. Not winning any aerial duels...despite being tallest guy on field Lots of fouls committed when losing aerial duels as he undercuts the shorter opposition He has good hair A brick of a 1st touch Being outrun on every thru-ball Did I mention he has good hair? Thanks for the Garberbucks!
If finishing on scuffed shots, crazy ricochets, and goal mouth scrums were repeatable skills, Berry would be a gold boot candidate. Sadly, that is not the case and he's the fourth choice striker on a team that has struggled to score. I think you can expect him to look like a guy who should be a decent striker but is not. Very happy with getting $225k in GAM for him and even happier that it was DC that paid so high a price.
Seriously, as @catfish9 said, the guy is normally taller than any of the cb's he plays against, but somehow in all the time he played here he never once won a ball in the air. I mean never. I never understood it
He had a good run for us last year. He just hasn’t delivered this season. Maybe a change of scenery will reinvigorate him. I certainly wish him all the best. He just became surplus to requirements and he’s now moving on. That said, an injury to Cucho and we’re ********ed.
That leak in the roof above me at Audi Field better not drip on me as I'm watching that ball fly through the air to Berry's head.
He might improve. If I was coaching Miguel, one idea I had, is put in some game tape of him, push play, motion to the screen with my dominant hand raised, palm up, shrug my shoulders, and say "what the ******** is this?"
