OK sorry but because I was called out yesterday for incorrectly dictating steak versus stake I have to say no it certainly does not beg the question. It does raise the question. He has a great shin. Attn: @geneweingarten https://t.co/0hL2tQFLQF— @petersagal.bsky.social (@petersagal) March 2, 2019
New Mexico United is becoming one of the big clubs in USL like Louisville. They have big support with attendance into the 5 digits frequently. Pretty good place to land.
Yes. My brother lives in ABQ and has season tickets. So I have been keeping track of them a little for a couple of seasons. Have not gotten to watch as many games this season though...
After a month of speculation surrounding his future, Zack Steffen has finally joined Championship club Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
Following this past weekends celebration I got to thinking that we are only a few years away from the 20th anniversary of our first MLS cup. Will Guillermo return? Will we ever properly honor his excellence with enshrinement into the ring of honor?
@eboe eh? But from what I remember, the talk was that they didn't want to do anything until the new stadium was fully settled into. Hype it up the second home game next year. As we know, that games doesn't sell a lot of tickets by itself. With proper hype, the sky is the limit. Of course, this would almost necessitate a placement that isn't the back door of the stadium.
Chad Marshall a first-year nominee for the HoF. Be a shame to put him in the national hall before he makes that chintzy, embarrassing display at LDC. What the hell were they thinking? (But then, they can't install Marshall before Schelotto and they apparently have no plans to do that either. A real failure on management's part. But since they chose to hide the thing away where nobody can see it, I guess it doesn't matter. I've been an STM since the day the place opened and, like the vast majority of fans, have never seen the damn thing. Probably never will. Great work.) Aside from the short list of last-chancers (David Beckham? Screw him) here are the other first-time nominees: Donovan better be a unanimous first-round shoe-in. The rest? Meh. DaMarcus Beasley — 126 US men’s national team caps, appearing in the four World Cups and 11 seasons in MLS earning one Best XI selection Ricardo Clark — 35 USMNT caps and 15 seasons in MLS with one Best XI selection Dwayne DeRosario — 14 seasons in MLS with six Best XI selections Landon Donovan — 157 USMNT caps and 15 seasons in MLS with seven Best XI selections Benny Feilhaber — 44 USMNT caps and nine seasons in MLS with one Best XI selection David Ferreira — Five seasons in MLS with one Best XI selection Christian Gomez — Six seasons in MLS with three Best XI selections Jermaine Jones — 69 USMNT caps and four seasons in MLS Chad Marshall — 16 seasons in MLS with four Best XI selections Michael Parkhurst — 25 USMNT caps and 10 seasons in MLS with one Best XI selection Chris Pontius — 11 seasons in MLS with one Best XI selection Nick Rimando — 21 USMNT caps and 20 seasons in MLS Jonathan Spector — 36 USMNT caps and two seasons in MLS
Marshall also has 12 caps with the US. I'd say Donovan is a lock and perhaps Beasley. I'd like to see Chad in there, but.... I'll note that Mrs. KG and I spent some time walking around the entire stadium (outside) around the time it opened, and we *did* see the display. And it is "chintzy". But that brings up the question of who folks here think should be in the ring of honor (or what ever it is called now--"cracker jack plastic decoder ring of honor, maybe). My list would include Marshall, GBS, and Mike Clark.
We don't have a real circle of honor until Guillermo Barros Schelotto is a member. Until then it's just a draft.
Clark defined "hardest working team". That's why. You did not want to play against him. Clark played twice the number of games (221 vs 110) as Lapper for the Crew. Don't get me wrong--I like Lapper. He was a personal friend back in the day. But Clark is second (to Marshall) in all time appearances with the Crew.
At first glance I said Beasley, Donovan, and Marshall are the only one's who should be in. Maybe Rimando. But based on the stats here, if Marshall is in, you almost have to include DeRosario too. Of course, Marshall was also 3x MLS defender of the year
Similarly to how MLS MVP is the Landon Donovan MVP, the defender of the year should be Chad Marshall DotY. It's a travesty that it hasn't been done yet and will be even more so if he's a first ballot HoF guy.
He doesn't have the number of games (at 147 for the Crew) played (which is another criterion, IMHO). I'd not put Brad Friedel in, for example--though he's probably the best goalie the team has ever had. But he wasn't here that long. There are other examples of that--like Stern John.
No sale on this argument. Clark served the club well but not at nearly the level of Marshall (league defender of the year) or Schelotto (MLS MVP). And he simply wasn't as good as Lapper when they played. Clark is what's known as a "compiler", ie a guy whose career stats look better due to longevity than excellence. To me, Clark is on par with Irabarren, Dougherty, Farrell, Dante, etc. A mainstay of the early teams but not an all time great player.
The main difference is that Clark defined those first teams and the team motto. And all of the players you noted actually had more limited careers with the team--none had over a hundred appearances. Clark had 265 in all competitions. When he retired he held team records for most games played, most minutes played, and most starts.
Oh, now I get it. In your opinion Clark is more deserving because he played more matches. I thought that you were saying Danny didn't qualify because he hadn't played enough matches.
