Celta a done deal? Can’t say I’m enthused. Can’t help but get the feeling he won’t see the pitch a lot. Hope I’m wrong. I like his game.
I read the source article. Presumed he wouldn’t be a lock starter at the outset. I’m good with that. I feel confident he can win a place on the squad with his quality.
Beltran, Suarez, Tapia, and Pineda. Not exactly a position of need, though presumably if they go with 3cm they need depth.
LDLT is a good utility guy to have. I really don‘t think he is being brought in to start. I do however believe he can earn time.
Yeah I think he’s a solid depth option for them, and I understand why he would be excited to play in la Liga, but I don’t think this is a good spot for him to gain PT, especially in the fall. Would’ve rather seen him at an above average team in Belgium, the Netherlands, or France.
Yeah, but I get it. He is 24, has worked his way up, and this is a shot at the big leagues. From a US perspective it ain‘t great but he had to take it. Who knows if he would ver get another?
Fwiw Suarez may be on the way out he's negotiating a new contract but based in twitter (and I believe someone mentioned this here?) He's clashing with owner. Bad enough to where La Liga sources are saying Sevilla, British, and Villareal are all preparing bids
Looks like a done deal: Can confirm Marca report that #usmnt midfielder Luca de la Torre is set to move to Celta de Vigo, pending a medical. Source adds that fee will be a shade over $2m. https://t.co/cjunxdATF1— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) July 7, 2022
I mean, this would put him in exactly the same club position as Yunus, which everybody's happy about? I think it would be a fine move
I like it. Based off his interview with scuffed earlier in the year he seems like a soccer junkie, and really tuned it, self-aware and willing to do what it takes to make it (the paycut from Fulham to Hercules and skipping the Gold Cup). My guess is he sees this as a calculated risk, a step he has to make to continue progressing and is confident his game can stand up in La Liga. He has to make a good first impression though, but I wouldn't bet against him.
From what I’ve gathered today, late last season, they transitioned to a fairly narrow 4-4-2 diamond with fullbacks providing the width. As I understand it, they played a 6 at the base (Tapia), double 8’s (Beltran & Pineda) at the sides, and a 10 (Suarez) at the high point. I think the versatility of LDLT means that he could slot into the 8 or 10. It might be in a rotational gig in the beginning but there’s real potential for him to get minutes. I don’t think he’ll be wasting away on the bench.
I don’t think it is so bad for WC performance even if he gets limited playing time. The increased quality in training will be better for him in the short term. I think if it were over a whole season we’d see stagnation.
Looks like they rock a 4-4-2 diamond. A setup I think Luca would do well in. Based on current roster it looks like he'd have to compete with a highly regarded Swedish 18 year old and Orbelín Pineda. The other 8 is occupied by Fran Beltrán who I think is a pretty good player. https://t.co/nLbj3NAOdj— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) July 7, 2022
Adams should have hired de la Torre’s agent. This is how you manage your career- moving up not below.
Good move if he plays. Two obstacles yet: - move to be confirmed, after all it's the silly season; - Luca getting more than the mandatory initial five-game run only to be forgotten after According to the ITK folks at the Fame Celeste, it's a done deal and Oscar Rodriguez is also moving from Getafe. Unai is also about to get signed from Athletic. The fans think Luca will be a depth player, though. https://fameceleste.foroactivo.com/t3521p900-rumores-de-mercado-2022-2023
Yeah, my friends there have the same opinion. They were surprised to learn just how much their US friend knew about the game and when I talked up Wes, Puli and Adams, and they have watched them they have gained a new respect for me and the US. If there is any Big 5 league LDLT is going to succeed in it is this one. He has what they like. Everyone thinks he will get time, but he will have to produce assists and some goals if he wants to supplant someone. Celta was a very good squad last year. Their players are gonna get a lot of rope, but most agree he should be given every chance to play. On Luca. I wish him well.
Either one or both of Luca's parents is from Spain, so it could be he's always wanted to play there and this was a great chance to do so and that appealed to him despite the chance for fewer minutes.
In addition, his father is Spanish (which is how he got his UK WP). Now he's getting to play in the league his father grew up watching as a kid, dreaming the he could be a player. A powerful motivator that.
As for the MNT, I know everyone here is talking about how this hurts his chances of making the plane to Qatar but be honest, how good are those chances? Then there's also the question of whether going to this WC is going to be very enjoyable: as a Berhalter sceptic, only the draw for the group gives me much optimism about the USA's prospects.
