Not sure if it's so much a "classy response" as "irrelevant because the Quakes never sign players anyone has heard of"... Alex Covelo on what player he would like to coach here in San Jose one day,"I would love to coach many players, I'm not going to tell you one player because it wouldn't be fair to the players here." Classy response by the Skipper #Quakes74 #MLS pic.twitter.com/VhHkJEFAWZ— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) July 6, 2022 See, uh, your own tweets This could have been a nice Chofis López replacement within the league. Great deal by Inter Miami. #Quakes74 https://t.co/8pMqkkPdIU— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) July 5, 2022 You mean California or Florida right? The Bay Area is the place to be. Has Jesse seen the movie Venom or Inside Out? #Quakes74 #MLS https://t.co/X0R6R5c3Mr— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) July 6, 2022
As I've said, Covelo doesn't give you much. You have to really pry stuff out of them, and even then, you're going to get very uneven results.
MLS (along with MLS Next Pro) agrees to an 8-year, $270m deal with betting division IMG Arena, with the annual value rising as new teams are added to both leagues. That's over $30m annually for the league. A lot of these numbers keep going up.https://t.co/6daQpkyZos— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) July 7, 2022
What this really means as that eventually there will be so much betting made on NextPro that game-fixing by low-paid players referees and coaches will become matter-of-fact
Betting on Next-Pro seems...weird, and wrong. It's a league to develop players, and it would be very easy to "lean" your team one way or another by who you select in your 11, and you could always hide behing "I wanted to develop the younger guys" or something. Same goes for tactics. Let's say your know you're playing against a very good pressing team. Well, we need to work on playing out of the back, so we're going to do that no matter what...
Exactly. I’ve watched a few soccer corruption movies about game-fixing, and it is extremely easy to arrange. Especially when betting is so microscopic now, such as betting on number of shots or saves or whatever. ANd one fixed game could equal your month or year’s salary
We already see the Forbes team values every year, the MLS sponsorships and TV deals, more on the coattails Fisher is riding to higher and higher valuations for the team he owns... Player market values, total and median team:
Lacob remains interested in buying the Athletics. “I’ve had a standing offer to buy the A’s from John Fisher for I don’t even know how long. Over a decade,” Lacob said. “It’s up to him; it’s his business.”Read more here: https://t.co/giDoAiggGE📸: @gabriellelurie pic.twitter.com/6NM95QNSXe— San Francisco Chronicle (@sfchronicle) July 10, 2022
Oh my goodness I was sooooo hoping he was going to mention the Quakes too. Does he know they exist? Maybe somebody should write him a letter?
Pick up the phone John I think it would be cool to see a Stephen Curry ownership stake in the A's someday. (like Mahomes and the Royals) pic.twitter.com/RIBnWuiGlq— Casey Pratt (@CaseyPrattABC7) July 28, 2022
The Quakes are really going to be the last American soccer team without a star athlete / celebrity co-owner... NWSL's Gotham FC now has Kevin Durant (also part owner of the Philadelphia Union), Carli Lloyd, Eli Manning, and Sue Bird. EXCLUSIVE: @S10Bird and @EliManning have invested in Gotham FC, joining the NWSL club's growing ownership group https://t.co/tVUsQmIkxX— Sportico (@Sportico) July 28, 2022
Thank you! The powers that be in the Serie A got caught because of phone taps but match-fixing happens in every league around the world. In Eastern Europe, Mexico, Central and South America not to mention the African or Asian countries, no one cares, knows and also because it's never talked about.
Fisher is probably glad there are no Quakes on the all-star team.......he does't have to worry about paying for their flight. (For reference......Oakland Athletics pitcher Paul Blackburn had a dandy time during every phase of the All-Star festivities, including hitching a flight to Los Angeles with the Houston Astros. “They made me feel very welcomed and comfortable,” said Blackburn, the A's lone representative at Tuesday's All-Star Game."
