Watch sycophant "Instant Replay" justify the refs decision. Wish they had Simon Borg back. At least he would call it as he saw it, even if we didn't always agree.
Eh. Philly and Montreal are really good (even though Philly can't score - DC has more goals in two fewer games), but DC just beat up on Orlando in Orlando somehow, and Columbus and Minnesota are mediocre (Columbus has the same number of wins United does).
I have to disagree with you a bit on Guediri. He wasn't making anyone forget Kevin Paredes, but he was at least as good as Brad Smith, and this was his first game as a starter with DC, on loan from Loudoun County. For his first appearance in the bigs, I thought he did reasonably well.
Guediri has been a pro for over 5 years now. He got 10 games with Miami at one point. This wasn't his first rodeo. His inability to get forward left Gressel as the sole wide creator last night. Again, that is unsustainable. He's better than Alfaro pushed out wide, but I would disagree that he is equal to Smith. Smith is a journeyman MLS player, I don't think Guediri is at that level.
I just went back to watch my recording i terested to see what the broadcast issues were. And oh boy, i laughed out loud multiple times at how pathetically amateurish it was. Not to mention Dave's cringey Taxi puns
I think he was tasked with more stay at home duties, just as Brad Smith was until Alfaro subbed in. It seems to me with Smith that big switch is always there, he gets sucked inside and can’t get over. At least with Guediri, they were forced to cycle across, allowing the team to rotate.
I think Smith getting sucked inside is more a function of a woeful midfield than Smith. The first Torres goal came when Durkin got pulled out of position to help Skundrich. I also thought Guediri was staying relatively central in defense as well, which opened up space for Ruan to dribble/pass. Neither Guediri nor Smith is a shut down defender, so allowing that much space outside because you don't "trust" the midfield defense means a lot of dangerous runs/crosses from just outside the 18. I think if the midfield were better, both Smith and Guediri would look better.
our midfield is still our biggest weakness - we can't seem to finish off close games in a boring fashion - tease the ball in towards the box but then take it into the corners with a backup along the sideline - maybe a quick cross the other flank - rinse, repeat - but coaches have to be smart enough to realize that and teach the team as a team to do that - maybe next year's coaching staff
Brad smith came in and quickly pushed a guy over for no reason to give a free kick that Orlando scored on. He's been a disappointment.
Given this team this year it would be a 0% surprise for that to happen... I bet Philly gets a few of their U20 guys on the field in this one since they haven't been scoring recently. Watch out for Paxten Aaronson.
That could be. I presume his flaws are far more exposed on a bad team like this one as opposed to Seattle.
