"Good Vibes" are important to bring when you're one of the last guys on the bench. Least likely to play. Good attitude and team spirit have to be brought to the training field every day. I'm not the biggest fan of Roldan. I also think this board has gone a tad bit overboard in their criticism of him.
I didn’t see that game. But I saw Acosta play well in the NLF against Mexico and absolutely wreck them in the GCF. He’s the only guy in the pool outside of Reyna who seems capable of delivering a decent set piece with any consistency. And other than about 20 minutes of LDLT holding down the fort against Uruguay in a friendly I haven’t seen anybody else provide a comparable floor this cycle. Who would you have as a backup there other than Acosta?
I have no idea because nobody was really tried apart from Michael Bradley and Yueil and Sands - 1 time I think? You better hope Adams stays healthy.
When was the last time he played at a lone 6 at the club level? I don't believe he has since Schalke and I actually don't think he's well suited to play there. Our best bet is probably a formation change if Adams goes down, but Acosta really is the only guy in the pool who can even come close to approximating Adams as the lone 6.
Worth noting that the last time Adams was not playing, we did a little Musah-de la Torre rotational thing, with Musah handling most of the D and de la Torre handling more of the 6 role on O. It was Grenada, I think? So not exactly a tough test IIRC, but still a wrinkle.
Yes, I hope our champions league MFer stays healthy. That’s not really what you said though. You said Acosta listed as Adams’s backup is “something that I see consistently among the savants who pick the Qatar roster which befuddles me.” Whether you like how we handled the cycle or not, if it befuddles you that Acosta is the backup at 6, then I’d think you would have an alternative in mind? Otherwise it shouldn’t befuddle you?
Indeed. That's what I think when somebody says that Berhalter only tried "X,Y, and Z." He actually tried more young guys, and none of them have developed yet either. Johnny Cardoso and the like. If I remember correctly, the #6 spot is where he tried Owen Otasowie. If people don't like X,Y, and Z............then who would they call up? Options A,B, and C dont' seem to exist. People have mentioned Edwin Cerrillo of Dallas, who seems to have lost his starting job to some degree. Adams and Acosta are two of the strongest locks for the WC roster in the pool. Cuz if not them, then who? Everybody gets that Acosta isn't setting the world on fire. But if not him, then who? Sands may get a look again. We'll see. Did Sands actually do something when he moved to the SPL?
Scuffed Discord top 26 and top 55 FIFA allows a provisional roster of 55 to be named ahead of the tournament. Here’s what the top 55 came down to. pic.twitter.com/pbV2BO5hCD— natfan9.bsky.social (@NatFan9) July 6, 2022 With Keaton Parks injured I will be angry at this list on behalf of Brandon Vazquez
At the moment, the only changes I make to our June squad are replacing Horvath, Palmer-Brown, and Bello with Steffen, Dest, and Chris Richards. If Reyna is fully fit by November, I drop Cannon to find a space for him. That is for now, but it can be different in November.
If lone 6 means a 6 playing between two 8’s, then I don’t think he has ever done that at the club level. If by lone 6 we mean a 6 playing next to one 8, then he shifted into that role late in a game for Juve and had a couple longer run outs at that spot with Schalke at the end of his tenure there.
Good thing Deandre Yedlin wouldn't face any attackers as talented as Yordy Reyna at the World Cup.... https://streamable.com/e6ny73 https://streamable.com/78cggz
Don't rate Yedlin but blaming the second one on him would be harsh for more than one reason. The first was typical Yedlin mistake.
I wonder if Jack Mc Glynn might be the u20 to sneak onto the roster. We could use his long shot situationally.
I watched his last match highlights. He mad many lovely passes but 80% were practically set pieces. Zero pressure on the ball, and all the time in the world. Not saying he can’t be great but he was getting a ton of time to make plays.
Yeah, the lack of pressure on the ball is pretty glaring. One of the reasons young players like McGlynn owe it to themselves to seek out opportunities to play abroad.
