It is approaching that at senior level. Under 21 seems mostly native born with even those who play outside of Turkey often still born in Turkey.

His agent is English btw with no known connections to Turkey.

It seems that he was cynically trying to drum up interest in his client whilst negotiating a move or new contract. It's in his interests to have as many people as possible interested in his player at both club and international level.

Most of the clips of him playing are from Turkish you tube accounts so it seems he has a fanbase there already.

No doubt. Getting him bigger in Turkey means bigger sponsorship deals and bigger cuts for the agent. Going to clubs and sponsors saying 'he's an England international and Turkey are desperate for him' just increases his profile in a business sense unfortunately.

What's Tezgel's background, his mum has to be from the UK? I've never seen someone with a Turkish name look so English!

I believe his mum is white and his dad is Turkish.

Looks like his mum's from Stoke and his dad grew up in London with Turkish parents. Turkish people aren't homogeneous though - some of them have quite light skin/hair/eyes.

Incidentally, I'm not sure the comments from his agent/manager are that concerning. This has been translated from English to Turkish and then back, but hard to read as a significant statement:

"He plays for England junior teams. There has been no offer from Turkey so far, but Emre and his family are open to a future offer, they can discuss."

And I can get why as Turkish clubs have been bringing in dual’s from abroad. Several of the Turkish based players in their under 21’s and senior squad were born in other countries to Turkish parents and have moved to Turkey to play.

And their under 17 euros squad was about 50% playing outside of Turkey mostly in Germany. They will be approaching him as his gets older and the FA should be alert.

Apparently not as hard as I thought to read as a significant statement. I'll fetch the key for the Anderson shelter again then shall I.

They might not have done so yet but they clearly very alert to youth duals outside of Turkey.

The Athletic are saying it is unlikely as things stand that Hudson - Odoi will be switching to Ghana in time to play for them at the World Cup and that he still harbours hopes of representing England instead in Qatar.

It would be a turn up for the books if he ended up playing for England again. The article says that he's reluctant to play for Ghana because of all the travelling!

I wonder if Hudson Odoi is looking at the stalled progress of players like Sancho and Rashford and fancies his chances a bit more now.

If this is true, coupled with his refusal to play for the under 21's also, doesn't really strike a profile of a particularly driven individual.

I thought his refusal to play for the under 21s was related to him planning to switch when possible but if that isn't the case it'd be pretty bizarre if he thinks he has much of a shot of Qatar for England.

I think he is driven to play for a club but is not massively motivated by international football.

I don't think it suggests that he's not driven. More that he's interested in managing his career more than anything else. Doesn't want to play for the 21s because he thinks he was beyond the level and won't learn anything and doesn't want to commit to Ghana because the schedule will be very tough with all the travelling. That's assuming that the article is true.

    edit: fireburn said something similar!

It could be that he never had any intention of playing for Ghana, and that he just wanted an excuse to get out of playing for the U21s. Then if he ever gets to play for England again he'll be patted on the back for it and it'll be seen as a coup for the current England manager.

Sounds too elaborate to me. I think his team just told him that he's beyond that level and the risk of injury is not worth what he'd gain from it career wise. I think more players think like this about the underage teams than people would like to believe. Trent Alexander Arnold openly stated that he wouldn't go to the u21 Euros so he could concentrate on his club career, as one high profile example.

I don’t think that is fully accurate as Tuchel said at one point he was surprised he rejected the option to play for the under 21’s.

i will be surprised if some of the players who played for the under 21’s last month turn up to the under 21 euros.

Should have asked his parents, I'm sure they could have told him where it was.
