Fiorentina are set to sign Luka Jović from Real Madrid. Deal in place on loan with salary shared between the two clubs [around €6m net], final details, then it’s completed. 🚨🟣 #transfersJović could arrive in Florence next week to undergo medical tests and sign the contract. pic.twitter.com/vp0439cBTq— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 29, 2022
Jovic makes around €12M a year. Amazing. We won a CL and had around €100M in wages do nothing (Bale, Hazard, Jovic, Mariano, Isco)
I think that tweet is saying he’s making around €6m net himself, as opposed to both teams paying that much each. That would be too much for Fiorentina regardless.
The wording is somewhat ambiguous, but I agree. If both had to pay 6m net (12m gross, as I understand income tax in Spain is ~50%), that'd mean Jovic is on a 24m gross contract. That can't be true. 12m gross is more in line of what I expect him earning, which is still a lot but hey..
I know, so if Jovic takes home €6M net that means he actually makes around €12M total before taxes, etc. I'm not doing that "net" thing anymore. It is nonsensical. Jovic cost the club around €12M in payroll a year.
I don't know why this sport can't just be transparent with player salaries like every other sport out there. I thought Jovic was on 8m net when he originally signed, which was in line with Benzema at the same time. Regardless, the player is a flop and a waste of money and it's clear now he mainly signed in Madrid to secure the bag.
I think he signed because he thought he was really good. I mean some of us (me included) thought he was a good buy. Dude is a very limited player. Never deserved the move.
A lot of sport is down to mental strength as well. Obviously I can't outright conclude anything from a single photograph, but I saw one Jovic posted with his dog. He just looked sad and lonely. Young player moving to another country and not having the best start just killed his confidence and he simply doesn't have the mental fortitude to get back up himself. He's probably one of those players that needs his coach and fellow players to prop up his confidence constantly, otherwise he just falters.
When he came to Madrid i seen one interview where he had a house tour .We could see how he bring on his friends to Madrid to live with him? For what? Party. Just lack of guts to achive something else. If u can see how many players especially from Serbia taunted as next big things and almost all of them flooped when they got some pressure on they backs. Not like i got anything against the nation of Serbia but in last decade they dint have any World Class player. Same is with Jovic... Just look at this list of " next big things in football " Ljajic Zivkovic Jovic Lazar Markovic Nastasic Mitrovic Kezman Jovetic
He was certainly not the next big thing in football if he was touted to be that but i thought Jovetic was decent, Jovic had chances, he hit the post and the crossbar more than he scored unfortunately, he really needed one or two of those to go in to boost his confidence, alas it wasn't to be
Don’t love the idea of the player going on loan to a league that’s not easy to bag goals in. He’s unlikely to raise his value for a sale next summer there. Oh well.
The guy just doesn't seem interested in playing football, he has that same depressed look on his face with the NT as well. Jovic is an ice cold finisher and he has the tools, with enough service I thought he score some goals here, but there's definitely problems between the ears. The signing was odd, big money for an unproven striker with not much of a track record. Maybe the club believed they were ahead of the curb paying 60m as opposed to 100m a year later. The gamble didn't pay off.
Right. Net makes no sense if we’re looking at our clubs’ books, so yes we are paying circa. €12m in that case. The reason when it doesn’t matter when either gross or net are used is when we’re comparing different player salaries, which is what we’re doing 99% of the time when taking about salaries. As long as we consistently use net (or gross) for everyone. English papers tend to use net for players in the Prem and gross from other leagues I’ve noticed to give a false sense of deflated English teams costs.
Historically it’s looked as a class issue in England. They liked to show how much someone makes in net weekly wages so they can demonize them in the press for being undeserving, when compared to the regular yob who makes 500 pounds a week. In the US they show gross so it shows how irresponsible someone is with money ( not showing the cut from the agent and the taxes, state and federal the athletes pay) when they buy a lambo or whatever.
Heavily disagree I mean FFS there are tax breaks and other loopholes which can be used to alleviate tax burden. Enough of that "Net" charade
Net makes sense only in the context of competing salary offers from different countries in the context of discussing transfers. Otherwise yeah it probably has no value.
The same thing happened at Benfica, he was successful in Frankfurt because he was surrounded by guys he could be around and relate to. We scouted pretty bad when it comes to him and Hazard. Both players had glaring issues that we ignored.
People like to assume that it's guys like him blocking the way for new players but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
Whether Mariano stays or goes this season doesn't really matter, he doesn't exist in the teams plans either way. The guy is as dumb as he looks tbh, if he made an effort to find playing time he would secure more term and a lucrative contract elsewhere. He certainly isn't playing the long game.
It's absolutely a possibility though so can't just be ruled out, he is taking up a squad space and we have to pay him so those two things have to be factored in to whether we can bring someone in or not no?, not saying that's the case but it "could" be an issue.
We signed Tchouaméni and Rüdiger before the sun came up. Mbappé would've been signed already had he not had a "change of heart", so to me it seems like when we really want a guy we do it. I feel like any kind of move we make now is a move we were at least very sceptical about. I just don't think "wait until we sell this guy and we'll get back to you" is such a clever negotiation tactic with a player coming in. I think the guys the club REALLY wanted have already been signed or the transfer didn't work out.
Is he considered a homegrown product? If he is, than management might feel he's useful to fill the need of registering however many homegrown products required by UEFA.
