Palmeiras fans, I wrote a question to Celito in the NT thread but as it deals with a Palmeiras player, your feedback would be welcome.

Hard to see anyone top Palmeiras as they are the most consistent side that performs at a high level. On their good day, Flamengo might be better than Palmeiras, but they can't maintain that level of consistency for a variety of reasons. The jury is still out on Galo.

If Atletico carry their form over from last season, they can definitely beat us. They will favorites to repeat Brasileirao champs IMO. Winning 3 Libertadores in a row would be something special. But I wouldn't be surprised if we start suffering from mental and physical fatigue this season. This team has played a lot of games with very little breaks over the past 2 seasons. Abel is gonna have to rotate wisely and find ways to keep the players fresh and motivated. While we are not the most technical team out of the 3 (Galo, Flamengo), luckily we don't seem to have big egos in the team and they are fully sold into Abel's work.

Well Palmeiras may not be firing on all cylinders in the Brasileirão but they absolutely are in the Libertadores. 4 games in they have 4 wins, are guaranteed first place already and have 20 goals scored, including 6 from Veiga (hat-trick today) and 7 from Navarro (who got 4 in the big 8x1 win).

Sure, they had an easy group, but they did their work and now the last two groups games will be training matches for them.

Yep ... this Ind. Petrolero team is really bad. The gap in quality is huge. But it also helped that they didn't bunker. Everyone expected an easy time in this group, but the number of goals scored is beyond expectations.

@Ombak , your team is visiting Talleres tonight, and when Flamengo hosted Talleres and won 3-1, Talleres' roster cleaned up the locker room and left gifts as a gesture of good will. Now, with some clubs in Buenos Aires seeing their fans act in racist ways towards Brazilian fans (Chileans did this too), it's refreshing to see Talleres' fans welcoming Flamengo fans as per this video.

Minus Atl.-MG, Flamengo, and River Plate (and this team is not as strong as it was in 2015, 2018, or 2020), I don't see any team that can seriously challenge yours in the knockout stage. The rivalry makes it difficult to an extent for me to say this, but if your team keeps playing this well, this year's title is Palmeiras' to lose.

We are among the favorites for sure. But saying it's ours to lose is a bit too strong of a statement IMO. Games against Flamengo and Galo would be 50/50 as they were last season. Other countries teams I don't know because I really don't pay much attention to them.

Palmeiras is built to win the Libertadores moreso than a long competition like the Brasileirao. They are extremely consistent and well disciplined. With those qualities and the talent they possess, they are an extremely tough out.

The only way I can see Fla dethrone them is to also become more consistent at a high level like they did in 2019. We were incredibly fortunate to get to the final last year and it was mostly on our individual talent alone. Renato was only able to get the squad to play consistently for a 4-5 game period and then there was a drop off. Palmeiras beat us in the final because they limit the error they make and the size of those errors. They took advantage of our errors on both of their goals. Yes, it is a knock on the squad last year, but also a virtue of Abel's squad. They have been doing this since he took over.

So Palmeiras set a record for best group stage campaign ever.

The draw for the Round of 16 is tomorrow at 1pm in Brazil.

    6 Brazilian teams made it through (3 in 1st, 3 in 2nd).

Hope we can keep that form going through the KO rounds. The group was cake walk, but still amazing we scored 25 goals with no proper striker.

Corinthians choked in the final game at home and finish 2nd in the group. That was a big fuk up.

Alvarez scored 6 goals in River's 8 x 1 win ... good thing he is on his way out to Man City and won't play the KO rounds. Not sure if they have a decent substitute.

    Atletico PR x Libertad
    Fortaleza x Estudiantes
    Cerro Porteno x Palmeiras
    Emelec x Atletico - MG

    Tolima x Flamengo
    Corinthians x Boca
    Tallares x Colon
    Velez x River Plate

I'd say it's a pretty well distributed draw. Don't like crossing Atletico in QFs personally.

Why does CONMEBOL allow teams from the same group cross in the R16 ???

You got a great draw. Outside of Galo, who isn't the team they were last year, you have a clear shot to get back to the final. Meanwhile, we potentially have to knock the two Argentine giants out to make it back.

True. It's not a bad path.

Boca sucks though. But I guess it's still Boca ...

River should be tough in a SF, but like I said ... they are losing J. Alverez so that should be a hit for them.

It would be awesome if CAP and Fortaleza can make it through their matchups and meet in the quarters. Obviously Atletico MG or Palmeiras will be hugely favored in that semi, whichever one makes it through.

Obviously no all-Brazilian semi is possible on the other side but we could have semis with 3 Brazilians and River Plate which would just be the culmination of the last few years of trends on the continent.

Boca really letting Corinthians off the hook. Benedetto has missed 3 great scoring chances including a PK.

Corinthians are just dire today, but Boca have not really taken advantage or kept up the intensity they threatened Corinthians with at times.

Athletico Paranaense losing 1x0 would also go to PKs at this rate. Tense end of the second half for both Brazilian teams away from home today.

Earlier, Atletico Mineiro became the first team to qualify for the quarters with an underwhelming 1x0 win (Hulk on a PK, pra variar).

Athletico PR made it through with a late goal seconds after I posted to tie it 1x1 today and win 2x1 overall.

Corinthians hanging on in injury time to the 0x0, will go straight to penalties if no one scores in the next few minutes.

3 out of 3 Brazilians through it is. Flamengo and Palmeiras should make it 5 at the very least. I think Estudiantes will take out Fortaleza.

The Raul Gustavo PK was bad, easy save for Rossi.

But what Benedetto did was special... that's going to be making some "worst of" highlight reels for a long time.

Keepers got their hands (or feet) on a lot of PKs in sudden death but they all went through until Cassio saved number 9 and Gil snuck it through Rossi's hands.

Corinthians make it through despite playing an awful match.
